We Remember

SHAW, Colin
November 5, 1961 — July 10, 2020
Our beloved Colin of Kelowna, BC, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2020. He will be forever remembered by his loving wife Julie (nee Burns) and their son Liam; his parents Derek and Margaret Shaw; his sister Diane (Tim) Dowling; his niece Heather and nephew Ian; and his brother-in-law Ian Burns.
Born in Stockport, England, Colin immigrated to Canada when he was four years old. Spending most of his life in Ontario he and Julie moved to Kelowna two years ago. Colin was a dedicated Aviation Engineer. He was a selfless, kind, and loving person who lived his life to the fullest with courage and determination. He will be missed by many.
A private Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 14, 2020, to honour Colin. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. If you wish to send a condolence, post photos or share a memory please scroll down the page to the area called “Condolences”.

There are no words to express our love and sentiment about how much your family means to us over the many years. Colin has been a great friend to us, mentor to our children and and all around fantastic neighbour. We grieve the passing of our beloved friend, and cherished neighbour Colin Shaw.. He was a loving husband to our Julie and devoted father to Liam. Our hearts are very heavy but delight in our memories all the good times that were had and we will never forget Colin and all we shared. Our lives and the kids lives were forever enriched by Colin and the Shaw family who so warm heartily welcomed us to Kawartha and their home all those years ago. Rest In Peace

Dear auntie Marg & uncle Derek I am so sorry to hear about your loss nobody should lose a child no mather how old Mind and Colin thoughts are with you and the family at this very sad time god bless you all ❤
Very sorry to hear of your tragic loss. Colin faced challenges all his life, but you never hear him complain about his situation. Instead he focused on his family. Making sure that Liam went to the best schools,,That they had family vacations and even that Liam got his fair share of ice time. Clearly they do not make men like Colin Shaw anymore.
Dear Julie and Liam: We were shocked and very sad to hear the news of Colin’s passing. We send our heartfelt condolences to you both. Although we never had the pleasure of meeting Colin in person, we have heard many nice stories about Colin over the years from Patti. She has told of us of Colin’s medical struggles with kidney disease (from his teenage years) and it sounds like he faced them both with courage and dignity. He sounded like he was a wonderful husband and father. Please know that we are thinking of you at this very sad and difficult time for your family.
Sincerely, Gary and Joy Pepper
Julie, Liam and family. Although I only knew Colin for a short time before your move to Kelowna; he always made me feel like a close friend. I am so sorry for your loss. Remember the happiness, love and laughter you all shared XXX
Our thoughts are with each and every one of you. Barbara and John Matthews.
With heartfelt love, prayers and hugs I share your sorrow. I will always remember our banter over coffee, after hiking the dogs, the day we tried to get in a golf game only to have a storm scare us off the green.. Your mighty presence will be missed my friend. My God bless you a pain free existence in heaven. I am blessed to have known you. Until we meet again Colin…..we still have a golf game to finish.!
God’s comfort and love to Julie and Liam.

Words cannot express how sorry I am for all of you. You are in our thoughts.
With heavy hearts from far away we can’t help but share your grief on this sad day.
Although a day to remember all of the great memories we shared it’s hard not to feel there should have been many more with family and friends.
Julie, we know you have lived a full life with such an amazing man.
Your lives together reflect everything that most couples only dream of……love & support, through tough and joyous times. Years with such a solid, genuine individual who was lucky to find his soulmate in you.
We have so many fond memories.
Take care, dear family and we’ll be in touch,
Much love and heartfelt thoughts from our family to yours

It was truly a pleasure working with Colin at Honeywell, for being on his hockey team, and most importantly, for calling him my friend. What a kind-hearted person. I feel so lucky that I got to know him. He will be deeply missed.
Words can not express how saddened we are to hear of your loss. Please accept our heartfelt sympathies, The Kinght family, Sheril, David and Dorian.

Julie, my deepest condolences. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers and that we are all thinking of you back here in Toronto, God bless, Irene Mota Dobson.
Please accept my deepest condolence. It was a great pleasure to know Colin. He always offered good helping hands to the team. Cheers and celebrate the success of the team. A good teammate. We will miss you.
It is with great sorrow I recognize the passing of Colin. With each day that passes it sinks in a little deeper that he won’t be here to share a good laugh, a drink or just drop by for a visit. Simple things that are taken for granted that now seem so very far away. He. Was a great brother in law with an even better attitude and outlook on life that impressed me from the first time we met.
I’m sure we will meet again.
Ian
Liam and Julie – My condolences to both of you and your whole family.
Colin was a great guy and will be missed. I remember being his captain in his last year in the Honeywell Hockey League where I had the pleasure of also being Liam’s captain the same year. I know that this was a special thing for Colin to be able to play on the same team as Liam. Even though he missed playing many of the games he was always there to cheer on Liam and the team. Colin was always a great teammate and friend.
Sorry I could only find a B&W pic of this photo.
Dearest Julie, I am deeply saddened to hear of Colin’s passing . I pray that God will grant you much strength during this time of sadness and loss. To me Colin was a hero, a person who did not let his circumstances in life stand in his way. He was a doer and a fighter. He will be missed by us all in the home hemodialysis unit at Toronto General Hospital. My most sincere condolences and you and your family. Much love…Rose Faratro
Dear Julie and Liam,
I am so very sad to hear of Colin’s passing. I have known Colin for a very long time and was his primary nurse for many years. I looked on him as a dear friend and as he mentioned before he left for BC he felt he was leaving family behind .His love for life despite having to be on dialysis always had me in awe of him. He never let dialysis get in the way of anything he wished to do.
He was a role model for patients in home hemo..He will be remembered by all the staff that knew him
Much love
Celine
We are deeply saddened by Colin’s passing. He was such a great guy. We didn’t see him much in the last few years, but when we did we always had a laugh and a great time together. People have used the word courage to describe Colin and that’s absolutely right – he faced his challenges with courage, dignity and a fierce intellect. He would not let anything stop him from living a full and active life. He had such a great sense of humour; we know he’d like this picture of an old camping trip when he and Tom still had hair! Our condolences to the entire family. XOXO

Julie: I was saddened to learn of Colin’s passing. I learned so much from him about courage determination and self-reliance. He may well have been the longest surviving dialysis patient anywhere ( 44 years), a testament to his discipline and tenacity. You and Liam meant the world to him; I know you both must miss him terribly. Please accept my condolences on behalf of all the health care workers at TGH who were privleged to have known him.
