SMILLIE, Calvin Scott “Scott”
November 23, 1955 — October 2, 2025
SMILLIE, CALVIN SCOTT “SCOTT” passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 2nd, 2025, in his home in West Kelowna at the age of 69. Predeceased by his parents, Cal and Shirley Smillie, Scott is survived by his sister, Patti Gilbert of Okanagan Falls; nephews Christopher Gilbert (Jeanine) of Alberta Beach, Alberta and Josh Gilbert (Rae) of Okanagan Falls; cousins Mark Corbett (Patricia) of Coldstream and Bob Corbett of Coldstream; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Scott was a long-time resident of West Kelowna and devoted more than 35 years to a teaching career at both the elementary and high school levels. He was passionate about coaching school and community sports teams and equally dedicated to his work with the Central Okanagan Teachers’ Association, where he served as staff representative, executive member-at-large and Vice President.
An avid Canucks fan, Scott also enjoyed fishing, golfing, reading, and travel. Following retirement, he remained active in the community through the West Kelowna Community Policing Society, where he launched the invasive zebra and quagga mussel inspection program and later served as the Acting President until his health declined. Scott also gave generously of his time to the West Kelowna Food Bank.
Memorial donations in memory of Scott may be sent to Central Okanagan Bursary and Scholarship Society. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
