We Remember
SUTHERLAND, Robert
October 19, 1947 — February 15, 2026
To know him was to love him.
Robert “Bob” Sutherland was born on October 19, 1947, and passed away on February 15, 2026, at the age of 78. He lived a life defined not by noise or fanfare, but by quiet strength, steady love, and a heart of pure gold.
Bob married the love of his life, Faye, on August 19, 1972. Their 53 and a half years together were built on devotion, loyalty, laughter, and deep respect. Faye was his one true love, the centre of his world, and nothing mattered more to him than caring for her and the family they built together.
Bob was the proud father of three sons: Jim (Janet), Chris (Melanie), and Doug (Alicia). Together, they are a close, united, and deeply loving family.
Bob loved his boys with all his heart. They were not just his sons, they were his best friends. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. He showed his love by being present, by helping, by teaching, by fixing what needed fixing. He was the first to show up with tools in hand, ready to repair a house, build a backyard project, or lend his knowledge. He was incredibly handy, endlessly capable, humble, and always calm. He had steady loyalty, quiet wisdom, and a great sense of humour.
Bob’s work ethic was unmatched. He believed in showing up early, working hard, and doing things properly. Alongside son Chris and daughter-in-law Melanie, they started trucking company, Sutco Transportation Specialists. He drove trucks, put in long hours, and led not with words, but by example. They built more than a company, they built a legacy of integrity, grit, and family values that will carry on for generations.
He was a proud grandfather to Jayson, Justin, Cole, Courtney, and Uma Maria, and a loving great-grandfather to Brooks, Jax, Nolan, Caden, and Lyla. Each one of them brought him immense pride and joy.
Bob is survived by his equally humble and kind sister Carol, who knew him long before he became a husband, father, and Papa.
He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, nature, and sunshine. He always seemed to have the best sun tan. When you asked him how he was doing, he would smile and say, “Darn near perfect, as usual.”
Bob adored his dog, Yeti, or as he lovingly called him, “the boy.” Their bond was something special. Bob gave the best belly rubs, endless treats, and took the boy everywhere for drives, to the dog park to see his “friends,” and swimming in the lake.
Bob did not need a big crowd. His circle was small, but his love was enormous. He was selfless, gentle, loyal, and humble. The kind of man who showed up every single time. A true family man in every sense of the word.
Life will not be the same without him, but the love he gave so freely lives on in all of us.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honour Bob.
