TAYLOR, William Vincent “Vince”

January 16, 1941 — August 16, 2025

William Vincent Taylor, known as Vince or Vin, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 16, 2025, in Kelowna, BC, with his family by his side after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. He was 84 years old.

Born on January 16, 1941, in Whitehorse, Yukon, Vince was a proud third-generation Drury Taylor. From an early age, he was drawn to adventure, sports, and the outdoors. He was never happier than when on a pair of skis, whether Nordic or downhill, and his passion and dedication earned him the title of Canadian Masters Biathlon Champion in the 1990s. Vince also loved cycling—so much so that he once rode his bike from Vancouver all the way to Mexico with his wife, Lynne.

Vince’s life was filled with many pursuits and accomplishments. He attended the University of Alaska, where he captained the hockey team. A lifelong fan of the sport, he cheered for the Montreal Canadiens in his younger years before turning his loyalty to the Edmonton Oilers. His love of flight began in Whitehorse, where he earned his private pilot license in his early twenties, followed by a commercial license in Alberta and later a float plane license back in Whitehorse.

After his flying years, Vince found his calling in education, teaching in Alberta as a physical education, mathematics, and social studies teacher. His gentle spirit and encouragement touched the lives of countless students.

Vince was also known for his deep love of animals, especially dogs and birds, and his fondness for winter, his favourite season.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Beverley Lynne Taylor (Lynne); his two children, Michelle (Cameron) Biffart and Paul (Rachelle) Taylor; and his sister of Whitehorse, Marilyn Taylor. Vince was a proud grandfather to Samuel, Lucas, and Mirah Biffart, and Abigail and Ethan Taylor. His family was his greatest joy, and his legacy will live on in their hearts.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the wonderful care he received at both the Kelowna Cancer Clinic and later the Kelowna Hospice South House. A big thank you to the medical team of Dr. Dueck and Dr. Hendriks who supported Vince during his illness.
