We Remember
THOMPSON, John “Jack” Douglas
March 18, 1932 — July 24, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Jack Douglas Thompson. Dad passed away peacefully at the age of 93, surrounded by loved ones at Hospice House Kelowna on July 24, 2025.
Jack was predeceased by his wife, Red, on April 13, 2012; his brothers Morrie and Jim (Saskatoon); and his sons-in-law, Ed Schwab (Saskatoon) and Danny Langlois (Kelowna). He is survived by his loving children, Scott (Jan) of Okotoks; Jill of Saskatoon; Jackie (Kyle) of Kelowna; and his brother, Cyril (Emeline) of New Zealand.
Jack was born and raised in Humboldt, Saskatchewan. He married his high school sweetheart, Red Kilcher, on September 12, 1953. Jack attended the University of Saskatchewan, graduating from the College of Pharmacy. He went on to own a drug store in Swift Current before eventually joining Shoppers Drug Mart for the remainder of his career. He had Shoppers Drug Mart stores in North Battleford and Moose Jaw before retiring to Saskatoon.
Jack eventually ended up in Kelowna, where he enjoyed his final years at the Sandalwood Retirement Resort. He especially enjoyed the Friday afternoon happy hours, music, dancing, and friendships he made along the way. He never lost his competitive spirit and was proud to say he was on the winning floor curling team at Sandalwood for four years in a row!
Jack was an avid golfer, curler, and curling spectator throughout his life. One of his most cherished memories was when he skipped his Humboldt High School curling team to win the 1949 High School Dominion Championship (currently known as the Canadian Juniors) in Edmonton, Alberta.
We would like to thank the wonderful staff of Hospice House Kelowna for their kindness and compassion while caring for our Dad during his last weeks of life. You are a blessing.
Dad, you will be missed by many.
