We Remember

TURPLE, Bonnie Lisa

November 26, 1963 — September 7, 2025

Bonnie Turple went to be with the Lord after fighting a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer, on September 7, 2025, at the age of 61.

Born Bonnie Lisa Bey, on November 26, 1963 in Regina, SK, she was welcomed into the world by her proud parents, Norman and Bernadine Bey. From an early age, Bonnie shared a special bond with her older sister, Lori — her fiercest protector and most cherished playmate. Soon the family moved back to Vancouver, B.C. eventually settling in Kelowna, BC in 1974. Bonnie attended elementary school at Dorothea Walker and high schools, Okanagan Mission and Kelowna Secondary School, where she graduated from in 1981. She went on to build a career at the Bank of Montreal, where her dedication and warmth left a lasting impression with her customers and colleagues. Bonnie married Mark Turple, and together they had two remarkable sons, Tyler and Kyle. She adored her boys and took immense pride watching them grow into loving, caring, handsome and accomplished men. Her love for them was unwavering, and their devotion to her was a beautiful reflection of the bond they shared.

Bonnie had a deep and abiding love for all animals. Her beloved cat, Link, was a loyal companion for many years, who predeceased her. More recently, she welcomed a beautiful and affectionate cat, Nico, into her life, who brought her comfort and joy in her final chapter.

She went on to work for SRI Modular Homes, where she eventually retired. It was there she met Barry Schmidt, who would become a cherished companion in her life. Sharing a love for the outdoors, Bonnie and Barry spent many weekends and vacations fishing, camping, and enjoying nature – often from the comfort of their scenic deck, where quiet moments and breathtaking views became treasured memories. Bonnie also cherished time spent with family and friends and took great joy in encouraging gatherings that brought loved ones together.

She was a loving, generous, and deeply caring person who found joy in making others feel special. Whether through thoughtful gifts or small acts of kindness, she had a way of spoiling those around her with warmth and affection. Her time with us was far too short, but her spirit of giving continues to shine in the hearts of those who knew her. She loved vintage shopping and buying gifts for friends and family (especially their babies!). She found joy in music from a vast array of artists including Johnny Reid, Fleetwood Mac, Elvis and some good old ACDC (when her true rocker came out); and watching animal and nature shows on TV, reflecting her deep appreciation for nature. One of her personal joys was treating herself to a convertible Mustang that she enjoyed driving around in during the summer months.

Bonnie had looked forward to welcoming a grandchild with all the love and joy she carried in her heart. Though that dream had tragically been cut short, her spirit embraced the little one with tenderness and love.

When she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late July, Barry was there by her side, taking care of her at home until she had to be admitted to hospital on August 29, 2025. There she was visited by her family and friends and fought the disease with fierce determination, bravery, and dignity. She passed away peacefully on September 7, 2025. The family would like to thank the amazing nurses, doctors, and staff who attended to her while she was at the Kelowna General Hospital. They fought alongside her, and the family is deeply grateful for their unwavering dedication and compassionate efforts.

Bonnie is survived by her companion Barry; children Tyler and Kyle (Serena); mother Bernie; sister Lori; brother-in-law Ray; nieces Lauren and Sara; and many extended family members and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Norman.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the BC SPCA, the Central Okanagan Food Bank, or BC Cancer Foundation in her honour.

Bonnie was a bright light and loved those around her with all of her heart. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved her.
