We Remember

van de WETERING, Corneli Christine “Tina”
—
1940 – 2025
With sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Tina van de Wetering (née Hengeveld) on April 11, 2025 in Kelowna, B.C.
Tina was born in the Netherlands and immigrated to Canada with her parents and brother. She met her future husband Willem (Bill) van de Wetering in Vancouver, BC. Tina was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
An accomplished piano player, she encouraged her daughters to enjoy music, play musical instruments, participate in sports, and pursue advanced education. She was always game to try new things.
Self-taught, she was an accomplished sewist and knitter and took up painting in later years. She had a sweet tooth and would never say no to dessert, especially if it was lemon!
She enjoyed the company of friends and would always offer to lend a helping hand. She thoroughly enjoyed the Kamloops Symphony, was an avid gardener and raised several lovely dogs. Her grandsons were a particular source of joy, and she and Bill spent many happy years in their company.
She will be missed by her daughters Shirley, June and Debbie, grandsons, nieces and other family and friends. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Bill, in 2019.
Tina’s family is grateful for the care and support from the staff at Mission Villas and the Village at Mill Creek.

I am so happy I had a chance to spend some time with your mom. and get to know her. She had such a good sense of humour and such creative talent with sewing , painting and cooking.. our “girls sewing week”will always be one of my fondest memories. My heart goes out to all of you who love her so much she will be greatly missed as is your father. I hope your wonderful memories provide some comfort. Love Sandy Penrose
So sad that she is gone…. I visited ‘ome Willem and tante Tine’ so many times and there was always a very very warm welcome in Kamloops. Tante Tine was the one who encouraged me to get my bc drivers licence so I could swap it for my dutch licence at home. So I did and as a ‘reward’ she gave me a special bananasplit at the DQ. It was a double one!!! I also remember our talks about my future. This was during Salmon fishing at poet Nook, near Bamfield… she gave me some wise lessons to think about…. I still remember them and use them in life! Shirley, June and debby, and family, my condoleances to all of you and I will never forget your mom!!
David and I, along with Natalie, Braedon, and Spencer, have so many wonderful memories of our time with Tina (Auntie Tina for our kids). The times we spent visiting, swimming in the backyard pool, walking through our neighbourhood, and eating the amazing sugar cookies (we still make them!) will be memories that we will all treasure for years to come. Our deepest condolences to all of you. Tina made a difference in the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Een foto van wat er nog altijd bij ons aan de muur hangt. Naast alle mooie herinneringen aan jullie moeder, ook iets wat ze zelf voor mij gemaakt heeft. In 2006 ijsvissen in Canada.
I am so sorry to hear of Tineke’s passing in April. I have very fond memories of times in Holland and Quesnel. We lost touch which I regret. The Hengeveld family were great friends with the Wey family. Hank, Zus, Dan and Tineke. Came across Canada together on the train. My condolences to all 3 daughters who I have met when you were little.
Shirley, June, Debbi,
We are so sorry to read the news about your Mom. I am so glad Jeff and I dropped in unannounced and had a wonderful visit with both your parents, before they moved out of their home in Kamloops. I have such fond memories of taking many hikes in the hills behind your house with you all. Especially the time we saw a bull that your Dad tried to provoke. I remember the mornings when June and I would walk to school together, and your Mom was always willing to french braid my hair before we left. Thinking of you all,
Jeff & Valerie Duncan
