We Remember

WIGHTMAN, Wilbur “Ross”

August 19, 1935 — July 24, 2025

It is with immense love that we announce the loss of Wilbur Ross Wightman, who passed away on July 24, 2025, at the age of 89.

Ross leaves behind a wealth of love, including his beloved wife of 67 years, Agnes Wightman; daughter Jamie (Dale) Koepke; son-in-law Bruce (Vicki) McLane; grandsons Ryan (Shana), Jason, Matthew, Brandon, and Mitchell (Bethany); great-grandchildren Xylia, Xyenna, Charlotte, Aiden, Lucas, Weyland, Niall, and Larke; brother Gary Wightman (Barb); and many nieces and nephews.

He now goes to join his daughter Sherry McLane and sister Evelyn (Ed) Turner, who passed before him.

Ross was born in Westlock, Alberta, to Harold and Mabel Wightman, and moved to Kelowna when he was just six years old, a place that would become home for the rest of his life. He was someone who truly loved life, and it showed in the way he carried himself and treated others. Ross had a warm, teasing sense of humour and a kind, generous spirit that made people feel welcome wherever he was. He was the kind of person who made time for others, always quick with a grin and a gentle joke.

Ross found joy in the simple things: fishing, camping, horseback riding, or just riding his tractor around. He loved the outdoors, loved to move at his own pace, and loved to connect with the people around him.

In his final days at Hospice House, he was treated with great care and dignity, something his family is deeply grateful for. Ross will be missed beyond words. His warmth, his humour, and his presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on SUNDAY, AUGUST 10, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, located at WEDGEWOOD KELOWNA CONDOMINIUM, 1045 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna, BC, with grandson Brandon Koepke officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Central Okanagan Hospice House.
