We Remember

WILLIAMS, Donald “Bruce”
March 6, 1952 — April 30, 2025
The down-to-earth and loyal Bruce Williams passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, at home in Kelowna, BC, on April 30, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born on March 6, 1952, to the late Howard and Grace (née Perry) Williams, Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Charlene “Sherry” Smith; his daughter, Amanda (Red) Perry; and his cherished granddaughter, Laila Rose. He will also be lovingly remembered by his siblings, Sharon (Bryan) Brooks and Perry (Ronda) Williams, as well as many nieces and nephews, and one great-niece.
Bruce called Kelowna home from birth to his final days. He had a very busy life from being a Queen Scout, on the Big White Ski Patrol, a volunteer with the Joe Riche Fire Department, to working at Western Star, doing a stint at Gibraltor Mines, and as a true jack-of-all-trades, he was skilled in carpentry, mechanics, electrical, renovations, and even had a stint as a Maytag repairman.
He had a deep love for the outdoors: favourite places included Beaver Lake, Dee Lake, and Big White, where he found enjoyment and hours helping to build Dunmoovin, as well as tranquility throughout the seasons.
Memorial Donations in memory of Donald may be sent to BC SPCA, or the Salvation Army.
Cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Life will be held to honour our beloved Bruce at a later date.

I knew Bruce from Cubs in the early ‘60s – he was one of the 7 charter Cubs of the 7th Kelowna Pack. We were in also in Scouts together. When my parents split up and Mom fled the house, she and I were taken in by the Williams family for about 6 months until Mom could find somewhere to live. In the early ‘70s when Bruce was looking after a vineyard in the OK Mission, he had the great idea to fix up an abandoned farmer’s cabin. After a month or so of renovation, Bruce, Greg Carter and I moved in for the summer – much fun and many wild parties were had! I have several photos to share, but can only upload one. In the attached photo Bruce is front and centre (wearing glasses and with the two “sixer” armbands) and I am standing beside him on the left in the image.
