We Remember
WILSON, Laurence Albert
November 20, 1948 — December 6, 2025
Laurence Albert Wilson passed away on December 6, 2025, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 77.
Born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, on November 20, 1948, Laurence moved to Kelowna at the age of 19. He spent his career of 45 years as a dedicated employee of Calona Wines, but his true life’s work took place in his garage. A master of his craft, Laurence was rarely found without a project. He believed in the value of practical skills and took great pride in teaching his daughters how to use power tools, passing down a legacy of independence.
In 1993, Laurence’s passion for automotive history led him to found the Okanagan Classic Thunderbird Club. His commitment to the club helped build a community of enthusiasts that remains a fixture in the valley today. When he wasn’t under the hood of a car, he was often found raising and showing his beloved Rottweilers and Corgis. He enjoyed his weekly coffee date with his good friend Gary. Above all, Laurence loved the outdoors; he and his wife, Cathie, shared a love for camping, embarking on many memorable trips together throughout their years.
Though Laurence faced many health challenges over the years, he did so with a characteristic resilience. In his later years, his greatest light was his grandson, James. Living together, the two shared a unique and joyful bond. To those who knew Laurence as a man of few words, seeing the huge smile that James brought to his face was a testament to the warmth and love he held for his family. Seeing James every day was one of his greatest honours and his most cherished routine.
Laurence was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cathie Wilson. He is survived by his daughters, Julia Wilson and Kimberly Wilson; his son, Bill Wilson; his grandchildren, James Wilson and Katherine Lamming; and many other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In accordance with Laurence’s wishes, the family will hold a private celebration of life to honour his memory.
