We Remember

WILSON, Walter “Donald”

May 26, 1945 — June 22, 2024

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Donald Wilson. Don is survived by his loving wife, Vicki Mason, with whom he shared over two decades of marriage. He is also survived by his two sons, Bradley and James Wilson, his daughter-in-law Daniela, and his cherished grandchildren, Evan and Zoe. Also surviving are his brothers, Roger (Skip) Wilson and his wife Ann, and Tom (Lin) Wilson, his brothers-in-law Robert (Jeanette) Mason, and Martin (Diane) Mason; and his sisters-in-law Susan Hoggarth and Betty Marie Mason (Robert) Fryer.

Don attended Upper Canada College, Huron University College, and York University, where he earned his MBA. He spent many years as an independent financial planner, building a successful career through dedication and expertise. He developed not only business relationships but also strong friendships with his clients.

Throughout his life, Don called many places home, including Toronto, Vero Beach, Big Bay Point, and Lake of Bays.  Recently, Don lived in Predator Ridge, BC, just behind the 2nd green, where he was surrounded by beauty and nature. He was well-known, respected, and adored in the Predator Ridge community.

Golf was a passion of Don’s, and many happy times were found on the golf course, surrounded by his treasured friends and family. To Don, the camaraderie was as important as the game itself. His love of golf led to a special experience of caddying for the legendary Moe Norman at Jasper Park Lodge, and he often humorously recounted his attempts to keep up with Moe’s prowess.

A man who truly loved life, Don was known for his gregarious, kind, and affable nature. He had a deep affection for his dogs. He will be remembered for his love for family and friends, his willingness to help others, and his infectious sense of humour. He will be greatly missed!

A celebration of Don’s life will be announced in the near future.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Kelowna General Hospital through the KGH Foundation.

Condolences

  • Deborah Turnbull says:

    Dear Vicki and family.
We are so very sorry for your loss. Don was such a gentleman – kind, gracious and with an absolutely wicked sense of humor. He made me laugh every time we got together! And we were so fortunate to get together a lot! So many good times and laughter.
We will miss Don. Our hearts are with you.

  • Rod Turnbull says:

Always had fun with Don…he was someone you felt you had known your whole life… he was someone I wished I had known my whole life. Don was serious sometimes but was always playful…he loved to tease and was able to be teased… the whole neighbourhood was in on the prank of tossing a few golf balls on his upper deck… intelligent as he was he was scratching his head for months trying to figure out how all of a sudden he was getting golf balls ( and so many!) on his deck! True to form, once he learned the truth he laughed as hard as anyone. We will all miss you Don but thank you for being such a wonderful part of so many memories in such a short time and for being such a classy playful good friend. We were so lucky to have had Don in our lives.
Sincere condolences to Vicki and family

  • Ted Ayerst says:

I had the privilege and joy of being befriended by Don shortly after his arrival at Predatory Ridge.

So many fond and fun memories to recount but our sessions discussing solutions to all of the world’s problems with a small cigar and a wee dollop particularly stand out.

Our hilariously irreverent golf loops with the neighbourhood lads will forever be famous for Don’s gimme pronouncement, “That’s a Wilson!”. None of us ever three-putted when Don was in our foursome.

Don is profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

  • Ron Somers says:

We will deeply miss him. A character for sure, but behind that a warm, caring gentleman who always watched out for family and friends.
