We Remember
WIND, Bernhard “Jan” Lykele
August 31, 1945 — January 20, 2026
Jan Bernhard Wind passed away peacefully at the age of 80, surrounded by his loving wife Julie and family, on January 20, 2026.
Born in Giethoorn, Holland, Jan is survived by his beloved wife, Julie; daughter, Jennifer (Dan); stepchildren, Terri, Dwight (Heather), and Trevor; eight grandchildren: Sylvie, Saadi, Krysta, Jessika, Devan, Ashton, Ayden, and Alea; eight great-grandchildren: Matthew, Dylan, Ryder, Hana, Brayden, Julien, Trynity, and Paisley; and his siblings, David (Ann), Nellie, Tina (Fred), John (Angela), Cliff, and Shirley (Bill). He was predeceased by his parents, Hitje “Hilda” and Gerrit Wind.
Jan served with dedication as an instrument technician in the Canadian Air Force for 29 years. His final posting brought him to Comox, BC, where he met his beloved Julie and where they made their home together, sharing 27 wonderful years of marriage.
A kind, caring, and supportive man, Jan was known for his generosity of spirit and his loyalty – as both a husband and friend. Jan had a quiet way of making everyone feel valued. In his younger years, he found adventure in parasailing and was an avid cyclist throughout his life. He was passionate about curling, earning many trophies over the years. Jan loved staying busy with his hands, repairing bicycles and computers for family and friends. He had a great love of music and photography and enjoyed the daily challenge of crossword puzzles, taking pride in his mind “full of useless information,” as he would say with characteristic humour.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and countless repaired bicycles. Those who knew Jan will remember his warm smile, his helping hands, and his unwavering loyalty to those he loved. He will be forever loved, and his and Julie’s love story will never end.
A Funeral Mass for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 750 Rutland Rd N, Kelowna, BC.
