We Remember

WOINOSKI, Brian

February 6, 1947 — July 29, 2025

Brian Woinoski passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Marilee and two children, Tim (Bonnie) and Julie (Kevin). He has 7 grandchildren, Taylor (Dan), Tajsha, Tim (Lauren), Abbie (Marc), Andrew (Kassandra), Matthew and Alex, as well as 2 greatgrandchildren, Lyra and Taitim. Brian is also survived by his sister Sheila (Mike) and his nieces and nephews, Jen, Bryce, and Taryn.

Brian was born in Simcoe, Ontario and raised on an orchard in North Glenmore in the Okanagan Valley with a brief time in Kitimat, BC. His family soon returned to Kelowna, BC, where Brian spent the rest of his school years – and where he first fell in love with Marilee, sitting just behind her in math class at Kelowna Secondary.

They married while in university at the UBC Chapel and moved to Golden, BC for Brian’s first job with the Department of Highways. They welcomed their first child, Tim, shortly after. Brian returned to school at BCIT to study Civil and Structural Engineering Technology. Julie was born soon after, and the family bought their first home in Cloverdale (now a suburb in Surrey, BC) and eventually returned to the city that was home to them, Kelowna.

Brian enjoyed a long career as a sales rep for the water and sewer pipe industry. He was involved with the executive of the BCWWA and enjoyed friendships throughout BC and across the country because of his commitment to work.

Brian shared his love for outdoor activities with his kids and grandchildren. Whether it was skiing, boating, fishing, biking, hiking or gardening, he was always in his element with family nearby. He introduced generations of Woinoskis to competitive swimming and skiing, and though his relationship with golf was complicated, he was a proud longtime member of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club.

Brian was the ultimate handyman – he loved to use his carpentry, plumbing, painting, and gardening skills to complete many household projects for his and his children’s homes. He was a member of the Kelowna Kinsmen Club and later “dictator” of K-40. He was also a gifted singer with community choirs and improved his skills up to his final days with his dedicated vocal coach, Tony Serka. In his later years, he was known to burst into outrageous opera or serenades anywhere he went.

He was generous with his time, skills, and love – always there to help his family in any way he could and a gracious host at their beautiful home. Together Brian and Marilee shared a life of adventure exploring BC, travelling the world, keeping up with all the grandchildren and returning every year to their beloved Maui. He stayed close to his high school crew and made room in his heart for so many more.

Brian’s life was lived with passion, adventure, and perseverance. To those who knew him, simply one of the best.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to BC Cancer Foundation can be made in honour of a man who fought the hard battle.
