We Remember

MAKELKI, John

May 20, 1941 – February 1, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Makelki, who died on February 1, 2026, at the age of 84.

John is survived by his children Theresa (Mike), Teri, and Tony (Bree); his grandchildren, Ryley, Tyler, Adrianne, Colby, and Faith, who brought him immense joy. He now joins his beloved wife of more than 60 years, Rose, who predeceased him.

Born in a German village on May 20, 1941, John built a life defined by hard work, resilience, and a deep commitment to his family. He loved the outdoors and could most often be found hunting, fishing, camping, or heading out on road trips in the camper—especially when it meant spending time with his wife and children.   At home, he took great pride in his garden and enjoyed raising chickens and pigeons, hobbies that brought him both purpose and joy.

John was steady, strong, and dependable—someone you could always count on. He would have done anything for his family and was always there when it mattered most. In later years, it was a true joy to watch him become such a proud and devoted Grandpa.

John will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
