We Remember
WALKER, Vera Joyce
April 26, 1931 — April 20, 2026
Joyce Walker came into this world in Brownsburg, Quebec, and spent 94 years living with a rich faithfulness that touched everyone around her. She passed peacefully on April 20, 2026, surrounded by the family she had spent a lifetime loving.
Growing up in Quebec, Joyce completed her schooling there before going on to teach and work at the bank, a chapter of her life that spoke to her capable, grounded nature. It was in those early years that she met the man who would become her partner in everything: Kenneth Walker. Together they set their sights on a new chapter, moving to Ontario where Ken took part in the monumental work of building the St. Lawrence Seaway while Joyce poured love into raising their four children. Hers was the kind of steady, generous love that holds a family together through change and distance.
Joyce and Ken put down roots in British Columbia in the 1970s, eventually finding their home in the Okanagan. Retirement brought Joyce and Ken to Sicamous, where they kept a houseboat on the water and filled long summer days with the laughter of children and grandchildren, camping trips, and fishing lines cast in hopeful silence. When the seasons turned, they would point their camper south toward Arizona, chasing warmer skies together.
After Ken’s passing, Joyce found friendship and belonging with the Colonial family, where her days were kept full of life, laughter, and cheerfully won coffee money during card games, dominoes, and cribbage.
She was a woman of deep Christian faith, and that faith was the quiet current running beneath everything she did: her kindness, her thoughtfulness, the way she welcomed people and made them feel at home. She was also an enthusiastic collector of many beloved knick-knacks and other sentimental treasures.
Joyce’s memory and love will be carried on by her four children, Danny (Bonnie), Ricky (Réal), Diana (Wayne), and Randy (Connie); her grandchildren Jeffrey (Samantha), Michael (Julie), Tyler (Candis), Wendy (Justin), Ry-Ann (Gord), and Kyle; and many beloved great-grandchildren. She is now reunited in God’s care with her husband Kenneth, her sister Verda Capron (Clifford), her sister Joan Seale (Wesley), and her sister Twyla Thompson.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
