It is with immense love and heartbreak that we announce the loss of Jim Hall, who passed away on July 22, 2026, at the age of 66.
Jim is lovingly survived by his best friend and wife of 35 years, Jazden; their beloved Afghan Hounds, Brando, Zoe, Tesah, and Hauken; and a large group of dear friends. He now goes to join his parents, Bob and Jeanne, who passed before him.
Jim was born in Kelowna, British Columbia, the oldest of three boys, and he spent the majority of his youth in Salmon Arm, BC. He was especially close with his mom, Jeanne, and that bond remained one of the most important relationships in his life. From a young age, Jim was curious about the world and always looking for his next adventure.
Flying was his first passion, and he loved his career as a pilot. When cataracts forced him to leave the cockpit, it was a difficult change, but Jim did what he always did – he found a new path forward. Broadcasting became his second career, and it suited him perfectly. Listeners in Red Deer, AB came to know him on BIG105 and 106.7 The Drive Radio, where he wasn’t just an on-air personality but also the program director of both stations. He loved connecting with people, encouraging his team, and being part of a community that felt like family.
If you asked the people who knew Jim best to describe him, you’d hear the same words again and again: adventurous, loyal, dependable, and fun. He had a way of making people feel comfortable, and there was always laughter when he was around. Jim never stopped wanting to learn. Whether it was taking on a new challenge or picking up a new skill, he believed life was meant to be lived with curiosity. Most recently, he had been learning French so he could speak it with his wife, Jaz – a gift of love that was so unmistakably Jim.
He loved being outside, whether he was waterskiing in the summer or out on his mountain bike. He also had a style all his own. He always dressed well, and you could count on him to be wearing a pair of fun, interesting socks. Bright orange was his favourite colour, and if you knew Jim, you probably weren’t surprised to see it show up somewhere – especially in the bright orange leather interior of his beloved 2003 silver Nissan 350Z. Every time Jim thought of replacing his sports car with something new, he just couldn’t part with his 350Z.
Jim had an enormous soft spot for dogs. He simply couldn’t walk past one without stopping to say hello. It didn’t matter where he was or if he was in a hurry, every dog deserved a greeting, and every dog owner probably left smiling after meeting him.
Jim made life brighter for the people around him. He leaves behind so many stories, so much laughter, and so many memories that will be treasured forever. His absence leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family, his friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be missed more than words can ever express, but he will never be forgotten.
