TYERS, Brian E.

With great sadness, the family of Brian Tyers announces that Brian passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC, on August 31, 2026, following a year-long battle with cancer. He was 77. Brian is survived by his wife Audrey, son Stu and daughter-in-law Lisa, and sister Marian Baleja. He was predeceased by brother-in-law Pat, and his parents Ted and Fame Tyers. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.

Brian moved from England to Canada with his family when he was two. With his father in the Canadian forces, Brian grew up on bases all across the country. Moving frequently meant that Brian had to be outgoing and confident, make friends easily and adapt to new situations — all skills that helped him throughout his life.  He attended military college for two years before transferring to the University of Calgary to study electrical engineering. During his career, he worked for various utility and oil companies before starting (with partners) his own company, Optimum Energy Management. His mission and passion were to reduce waste by optimizing energy usage for the oil, gas and other large industries. He also taught energy management best practices in Canada as well as in Latin and South America. He derived enormous satisfaction working with an international development organization to help improve practices for companies in Cuba, Trinidad, Jamaica, and Costa Rica, among others.

Brian was committed to the Canadian Cancer Society, and served on the board and later as Chairman of the Alberta/NWT division. He was also a proud member of the entrepreneurial group the “Pinnacle Breakfast Club” for many years.

Brian always loved both baseball and golf, and after retiring to Kelowna, he played with the seniors’ slow-pitch teams, and golfed and volunteered at the Gallagher’s Canyon courses. Wintering in Mexico gave Brian the opportunity to volunteer and golf in the Puerto Vallarta area. Brian also loved to travel and, over the years, travelled to Jordan, Egypt, China, Peru, Australia, and extensively in Mexico. Throughout his life, he enjoyed vacations with family at his sister Marian and brother-in-law Pat’s home in rural Manitoba, and later many golf outings with son Stu.

Brian will be remembered for his love of life, interest in sports of all kinds, curiosity about everything from science to history, his broad smile and deep caring for family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and Kelowna General Hospital (KGH Foundation).
