We Remember
TYERS, Brian E.
—
With great sadness, the family of Brian Tyers announces that Brian passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC, on August 31, 2026, following a year-long battle with cancer. He was 77. Brian is survived by his wife Audrey, son Stu and daughter-in-law Lisa, and sister Marian Baleja. He was predeceased by brother-in-law Pat, and his parents Ted and Fame Tyers. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children and grandchildren.
Brian moved from England to Canada with his family when he was two. With his father in the Canadian forces, Brian grew up on bases all across the country. Moving frequently meant that Brian had to be outgoing and confident, make friends easily and adapt to new situations — all skills that helped him throughout his life. He attended military college for two years before transferring to the University of Calgary to study electrical engineering. During his career, he worked for various utility and oil companies before starting (with partners) his own company, Optimum Energy Management. His mission and passion were to reduce waste by optimizing energy usage for the oil, gas and other large industries. He also taught energy management best practices in Canada as well as in Latin and South America. He derived enormous satisfaction working with an international development organization to help improve practices for companies in Cuba, Trinidad, Jamaica, and Costa Rica, among others.
Brian was committed to the Canadian Cancer Society, and served on the board and later as Chairman of the Alberta/NWT division. He was also a proud member of the entrepreneurial group the “Pinnacle Breakfast Club” for many years.
Brian always loved both baseball and golf, and after retiring to Kelowna, he played with the seniors’ slow-pitch teams, and golfed and volunteered at the Gallagher’s Canyon courses. Wintering in Mexico gave Brian the opportunity to volunteer and golf in the Puerto Vallarta area. Brian also loved to travel and, over the years, travelled to Jordan, Egypt, China, Peru, Australia, and extensively in Mexico. Throughout his life, he enjoyed vacations with family at his sister Marian and brother-in-law Pat’s home in rural Manitoba, and later many golf outings with son Stu.
Brian will be remembered for his love of life, interest in sports of all kinds, curiosity about everything from science to history, his broad smile and deep caring for family and friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held for friends and family at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and Kelowna General Hospital (KGH Foundation).

Dear Audrey,
Many condolences at your loss of your dear husband. I have many fond memories of working with Brian (and Dale) at Optimum Energy Management (over most of the time they existed) and then at Stantec. I also remember with thankfulness your and Brian’s kindness to me before you relocated to Kelowna.
So sad to hear of Brian’s passing. I met Brian in 1993 and together he and Rudy helped me launch my entrepreneurial career as partners in Optimum Energy Products. He was a great mentor and friend. Our condolences to Audrey and family.
Our sincere condolences to Audrey, Stu, Lisa and family. Although I wasn’t fortunate enough to get to know Brian better, I learned many great things about him from Stu, my son-in-law and my daughter Lisa. I recall that Stu looked forward to his golf outings with his father and that he was thankful for the time they were able to spend together always and especially the last few weeks. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
We were so sad to hear of Brian’s passing. Our thoughts are with Audrey, Stu and his wife and the rest of his family. We will always remember his sense of fun playing with our dogs and his joie de vivre . May his memory be a blessing.
Audrey,
Brian was a prince of a man who Dale and I always enjoyed spending time with. He had a positive impact on and will be missed by many people from every aspect of his life. Our thoughts are with you and we look forward to continuing our friendship with you.
Condolences to Audrey and Family.
Will miss Brian and the conversations we had while playing ball and working with the Strata here in Gallagher’s. Participated in a few projects with Brian and he was very meticulous and also did more than his share of the work. Paula and I will miss Brian and look forward to continuing our friendship with Audrey.
So sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. We will miss his casual walk-in visits when we were all in Los Amores.
Marilyn and Barry
Our deepest condolences Audrey and family. We are so saddened to hear of Brian’s passing. Brian was a good friend and neighbor, and we will miss seeing him each winter in Los Amores, walking down the street with his smile, sitting on the terraza chatting, cheering on the Grey Cup… Denis in particular will miss their Mexican golf outings, with Brian always a ready and willing partner, both on the course and as spectators at The Mexican Open. Thinking of you, prayers for peace and comfort now and in the days ahead.

Audrey, we were so shocked to recently hear of Brian’s passing. We got to know you two some years ago at those Friday night appy gatherings, various social events and other occasions. He was a true gentleman, always fun to be with and you couldn’t help but feel good when he gave everyone his big smile! We certainly will miss him around the Gallaghers community. We found this picture from a 2014 Canada Day party. Know that we are thinking about you.
Dear Audrey, Stu and Lisa and family and Marian:
Our deepest condolences to Audrey, Stu & Lisa , Marian and family. We had gotten to know Brian and Audrey over the last few years in Los Amores, Bucerias Mexico.
We will miss seeing and visiting with him, and his zest for life! Our hearts are with you!
Stu, your dad was so proud of you! Although, we never met, we knew you through his eyes, and he loved you so very much…
