We Remember
ALCOCK, Iris Helen
November 21, 1952 — December 9, 2019
Born near Battleford, SK, Iris moved to Penticton when she was very young and fell in love with the Okanagan and her high school boyfriend John Alcock.
She quickly became known as “the bubble gum Aunt” to her adoring nieces and nephews.
Iris was diagnosed with MS shortly after starting work in a bank in the late ‘70’s. She was a dedicated member of the MS Society in Kelowna, BC and cherished the friendships developed over many years of membership.
Iris was the consummate optimist, seeing the best in every situation, and always “up” for any fun activity: including “flying airplanes”, participating in recreational events like “sailing” with COSA, “hiking Knox Mtn.”, kayaking on the lake with CRIS Adaptive Adventures, and long drives on the back country forestry roads to explore scenic lakes. She loved needle point, nature, animals, and most types of music.
This beautiful lady never complained, even through major changes in lifestyle, mobility, and residence. Iris will be missed deeply by those who knew and loved her, leaving all of us with the memory of her beautiful smile.
Iris passed away peacefully at home in Sun Pointe Village on December 9, 2019. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 3:30 pm in their Town Hall at #700 Rutland Road North. Iris loved colours, especially purple so expect a colorful turnout to celebrate this beautiful and inspirational lady.
Predeceased by parents Emmi Goerke and Jean Fishbacher, Iris is survived by her nephew, Raymond (Magda), and daughters, Catriona and Nora Goerke, of Mission, BC, as well as Erna Wegner and Selma and Art Blum of Wpg, MB. Memorial donations can be made to the MS Society, mssociety.ca.
