We Remember
ALTENBURG, Ida Katrina
March 12, 1940 — May 7, 2017
In loving memory of Ida Altenburg of Kelowna, who passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday May 7th, 2017 at the age of 77. She was born in the Netherlands but settled in Canada after marrying the love of her life. Both kind and gentle, she had a zest for life and a beautiful and adventurous spirit. She was a wonderful seamstress, a lover of nature, travel and had a passion for sport. Most importantly, she gave her family and friends the best things in life: love and care – for those, we are most grateful.
She is missed immensely and will always be in our hearts.
She is survived by her daughter Leona (Jeremy), grandson Jacob, brothers Rients, Henk (Isabella), Ane (Eleonora), and sisters Lena (Peter), Jetty (Auke), Julia (Hans), Tineke (Hans), Marijke (Wim) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extensive family in the Netherlands. Predeceased by her loving husband Jack, sister-in-law Mieke, her father Andries Huitema and mother Lisabeth Anema.
A special thank you to Ida’s sister Tineke, sister-in-law Ann, niece Sarah, brother-in-laws Ted and Hans and friends Pauline Bark and Rika Bosma for their immense support and love during this difficult time. We are forever grateful.
A memorial mass will be held Monday May 15th at 11:00 AM at St. Charles Garnier Catholic Church 3645 Benvoulin Rd, Kelowna, BC V1W 4M7.

Lieve Ida,
One day in the hospice I commented on your beautiful smile. Your answer was “That is all I have to give”; but you gave so much more to others during your lifetime and we are blessed to have known you. Love, kindness, compassion and a friendship to me that lasted 47 years.
Your grace and dignity during the last six weeks of your life set an example of
courage and fortitude for us all.
You will be missed, sweet lady. Veel liefs en kusjes, your Sister (in law), Ann
I’m so sorry I missed the service. I’m sure it was lovely. Ida was so lovely to live next door to. Just a super lady with a big heart and some great stories! She will be missed!
