We Remember
ALVES, José Reis
May 5, 1935 — February 6, 2022
José Alves of Kelowna, BC passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the age of 87. After several months of declining health, he peacefully went to be with Jesus.
José was one of 7 children and was born in Peroviseu, Portugal on May 5, 1935. Growing up in a small town with few amenities, he learned many life skills early on, as well as the importance of hard work and perseverance.
On October 27, 1962, José married his wife, Maria Aurora. José and Maria were married for 59 years, and together they had 2 sons, Zè Luis of Vancouver, BC, and Tony (Juli) of Kelowna, BC. They also share 3 grandchildren, Allisen (Moe) of Sherwood Park, AB, Jessica of Coldstream, BC, and Daniel (Angie) of Kelowna, BC. He was very proud of his family and especially enjoyed playing with his 3 great-grandsons, Tiago (12), Jonah (10), and Behnam (5).
José enjoyed bocce, Tim Hortons coffee, his leather recliner, and spending time with family. He led a very successful career as an orchardist who managed hundreds of acres of apple, pear, peach, and cherry trees in the Okanagan. José loved working in the orchards and had an incredible work ethic. He retired only a few years ago and spent his retirement pruning trees and working around the yard with Maria, as well as visiting with family and friends regularly.
José will be remembered for his humble, loving, and kind nature, as well as his gentle spirit. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
