ANDRES, Mary

June 18, 1930 — December 3, 2020

Mary Andres (age 90), resident of Fort St. John, BC, formerly of Kelowna, BC, passed away on December 3rd at the age of 90.

Mary was born to Howard and Elizabeth Webb in June 1930 in Kelvington, Saskatchewan. As a young girl her family moved to Giscome, BC where her father worked in the sawmill. She graduated from Prince George Secondary School in 1948. Mary completed Normal School in Victoria (1950) to become a teacher. In the fall of 1951, she came to Cecil Lake to teach at Transpine School (grades 1-4) for one year. This is where she met her husband Harry. She left Cecil Lake in June 1952 and married Harry on September 6, 1952. They moved to Prince Albert, SK where their son Ken was born. They moved to Prince George one year later. Evan, Kathy and Bernice were born in Prince George. In 1964, they returned to Cecil Lake and farmed until 1992. Howard completed their family in 1967.  Mary retired from teaching in 1986. She and Harry bought a fifth wheel and enjoyed travelling for several years. In 1996, Mary’s oldest daughter Lynn was welcomed into our family. In 1997, they moved to Westbank, BC for a few years and then settled in Kelowna. Harry passed away in January 2006 and Mary resided in Kelowna until the fall of 2018, she then moved back to Fort St John to be closer to her family.

Throughout Mary’s life she was an involved community member in various organizations: The Woman’s Institute, Cecil Lake Community Hall, and once she retired was very involved with the Seniors Centre, both in Kelowna and Fort St. John. She loved floor curling and a good game of crib.

Her legacy lives on through her children: Lynn (Daryl) Arnold, Ken (Suzanne) Andres, Evan Andres, Kathy (Brian) Kelly, Bernice (Rick) Chmelyk, and Howard (Katherine) Andres; her brother Art Webb; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her parents Howard and Elizabeth Webb and her husband Harry (2006).

A Funeral Service will be held to honour Mary with Clair Jantzen officiating, burial to follow at Westbank Cemetery. Due to the current pandemic restrictions, it will be by invitation only. However, the family would like to invite all who want to pay their respects to join by livestream on Friday, December 11, 2020, at 10:00 am. (see below)
