We Remember

ARMES, Margaret “Maureen”

March 14, 1936 — December 15, 2023

On December 15, 2023, in Kelowna, BC, Maureen Armes passed away at the age of 87. Maureen was born on March 14, 1936, in Grand Forks, BC.

Maureen is survived by her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Cathy; her grandchildren Ben and Kim (Kevin); and her great-grandchildren McKenna and Addalyn.  She is also survived by her son-in-law, Emmerson. Sadly, she was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter; daughter, Heather; parents, Frank & Dorothy; and her sister, Tyke.

Maureen and Peter’s love story began in Grand Forks, where they met and married. There, they also had their two children, Heather and David. The family then moved to Kelowna, BC, where they created many great memories together. Maureen’s love extended to her role as a devoted grandmother from 1989 onwards. In Kelowna, she created unforgettable moments with her grandchildren, many summer days were spent at the beach while enjoying salmon and cucumber sandwiches on her freshly made bread with a side of her home-made bread and butter pickles.

A dedicated bank teller at CIBC for about 25 years (off and on), Maureen (along with Peter and her grandchildren) also delivered you your Daily Courier newspaper every morning in the Glenmore Area in the 90s. Maureen’s love for baking and knitting intertwined seamlessly with her daily ritual of tuning in to “Days of our Lives”, then at 3:00 pm, she’d indulge in a refreshing mix of white wine and 7-Up, while Peter preferred his red wine. Maureen and Peter also went on many trips to Hawaii and enjoyed time spent on the water on Alaskan Cruises.

Maureen loved to host family gatherings.  Having her children and grandchildren (and their friends) over for lunch or dinner was their most favourite day of the week, Maureen and Peter always had an open door when it came to visitors.

The family would like to thank Brandts Creek Mews for the great care they gave Maureen during her time of need.

A private Graveside Service will be held to lay Maureen to rest with her late husband in the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery.
