We Remember
AUGUST, Arnold Stephen
November 10, 1946 — May 23, 2026
Travelling Man
It is with immense sadness that we share that Arnold Stephen August of the Neskonlith First Nation passed away peacefully in the early evening of Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Kelowna General Hospital.
Arnold will always be remembered as a kindhearted, gracious, and wise man whose faith in his Creator, Jesus Christ, was his guiding light throughout his life. A devoted Christian and beloved member of Metro Church, Arnold was revered as an Elder within the community. His spiritual insights were profound and life-giving, and he carried a deep knowledge of the Holy Scriptures, which he committed to memory and lived out daily through humility, compassion, forgiveness, and unwavering faith.
One of the most remarkable things about Arnold was the way he connected so deeply with everyone he encountered. There are many communities across Canada and the United States that lovingly considered Arnold one of their own. A self-described “travelling man,” Arnold journeyed far and wide throughout his life, forming lasting friendships wherever he went. He knew the names of Chiefs and families across many Nations, always knowing where he would be welcomed with warmth and kindness along his travels.
Music and fellowship brought Arnold great joy. He loved singing and belonged to a drum group at the Friendship Centre, where he shared both his voice and spirit with others. Arnold was also deeply proud of his sobriety journey, having remained sober for 27 years through Alcoholics Anonymous. His strength, honesty, and encouragement inspired many others walking similar paths.
Arnold will be deeply missed by many loving family members and friends, including his siblings Janice Marie August, Angie Harlson, Bernice (Heather) August, Enice August, and Louis August; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and the many communities and friendships he carried throughout his life.
He now goes to join his beloved parents, Willard August and Edith August (née Soulle); and his siblings Ron August, Sam Harlson, Ted Harlson, Delores August, and Edith Harlson, who predeceased him.
Arnold’s passing has left a tremendous void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Yet, we take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace in the loving arms of his Maker.

Arnold was so kind and caring. I met him
At KFS and would often have a coffee with him after that. He told me if ever in trouble, I could raise up my keys to heaven, and God would send a legion of angels to protect me. Arnold was a great human being, loved by many. Condolences to his close relatives and many friends.
My condolences to the whole family knew him my whole life may he rest in peace
