AUGUST, Gary William
—
Passed away after a courageous battle with Brain Cancer on February 22nd at the age of 65. He is survived by his loving wife Deborah Jane Fraipont-August, her children; Courtney and Spencer, his sons; Shaun (Jean) and Scott, grandson; Kieran, brother; Brian (Irene), sister; Arlene (David), nephews; Mathew and James, nieces; Erin, Kristen and Michelle, and his loving dog; Bauer. Predeceased by father Archibald August and mother Irene August. Gary will also be missed by his many friends and business associates.
Gary was born in Kelowna and grew up on Rose Avenue. Upon graduation from U.B.C. in 1971 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, he returned to Kelowna to sell Real Estate at Gaddes Realty. He then managed the Rutland office of Hoover Realty before becoming a partner in Four Seasons Realty. In 1990 Gary was a founding partner of Horizon Realty, the first Coldwell Banker office in Western Canada. Gary loved skiing, golfing and boating, and most of all he loved Kelowna, showing people the city, talking about it’s history and it’s people. Gary was a long time member of the Kelowna Yacht Club, Gyro Club of Kelowna, and the Kelowna Golf and Country Club. Gary’s family and friends are very appreciative of the excellent care he received during his treatment and while in hospice. The service will take place at Springfield Funeral Home, Friday, February 28th at 10am. Donations to the Central Okanagan Hospice Association would be appreciated. I have such fond memories of my friendship with Gary through Coldwell Banker. He was a gracious, friendly and accomplished man whom I respected greatly. Gary and I grew directly across the ally from each other. We had our rivalries over the years but remained friends always. He was so kind to my sister Deborah (passed away December 14, 2010). He loaned her money to buy her first home. I know I speak for the entire Stringer family (David & Robin) when I say how saddened we are of his early death. Gary was a very good friend, golfing partner and always helpful in any way he could. We will miss him and with sadness we send our condolences.

My condolences to the August family. I just learned of Gary’s passing. I first met Gary at Gyro in the 90’s and we later were neighbors at the Imperial. It is unfortunate that such a vital person passed so young.
