We Remember
BAILEY, Sandra Diane
October 29, 1949 — February 18, 2023
On February 18, 2023, Sandra Bailey passed away in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 73. She is survived by her husband Rodger; children Elizabeth (Robert), Catherine (Kevin), and Ronald; grandchildren Richard (Koiya), William (Kelsey), Darlene (Jasper), Emily, Rebekah (Dathan), Ethan, Caitlin, and James; and great-grandson Jaxon.
She was born Sandra Diane Smith on October 29, 1949, to Alexander and Lorraine Smith in Toronto, Ontario, where she and her older brother Rodger were raised. On June 14, 1969, Sandra married the love of her life, Rodger Bailey. They remained in Toronto, welcoming two daughters Elizabeth (1970) and Catherine (1972) until a job opportunity came along in 1974, when they then moved to Prince Rupert, BC. During their time there, Sandra enjoyed different customer service jobs along with volunteering as a helper and substitute teacher at the school. She also started a Welcome Wagon program, where she loved meeting new people and newborn babies. In 1980, Sandra and Rodger added to the family with their son Ronald. Sandra was a very outgoing and friendly person and enjoyed many lifelong friendships formed with her love of family, reading, sewing, preserving food, and crocheting. She loved to share and teach these skills to others, especially her family.
Sandra and Rodger transferred with his job in 1988 to Edmonton, AB and in 1991 to Kamloops, BC before moving back and retiring in Port Edward, BC in 2004. Sandra was happiest when her family was around and was overjoyed with each new grandchild. Although the last few years involved a lot of health issues and hospital visits, Sandra was always grateful and kept her positive attitude and huge smile.
The family would like to thank all the amazing hospital staff in Prince Rupert, Prince George and Kelowna for taking such wonderful care of her.
