We Remember
BARAN, Mike
October 12, 1926 — August 30, 2024
Mike Baran, born on October 12, 1926, in Momart, Saskatchewan, to the late William and Mary Baran, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2024, at Cottonwoods Extended Care Complex in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 97.
Mike is survived by his children Larry (Janet) Baran, Brian (Linda) Baran, and Patti (Tim) Goode; grandchildren Matthew, Joshua, Brendan, Sean, Melissa, Jesse, and Thurman; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He is also remembered by his siblings: Rose, Stella, Boris, and Nellie, and his brother-in-law Gordon (Sandy). Sadly, he was predeceased by his dear wife Ruby (née Almaas) and multiple siblings. He and Ruby were inseparable during their 50 years together, creating a life filled with love and laughter. Mike shared a close bond with his niece Snow, who worked at Cottonwoods and lovingly cared for him in his final years.
Mike’s passion for woodworking, particularly crafting captain’s beds—of which he sold hundreds—was his “claim to fame” since he was well-known in his community for providing them. He also found joy in gardening and thoroughly enjoyed the simple pleasure of drinking a cold beer.
Known for his sharp wit and great sense of humour, Mike had a unique ability to keep his family laughing, and he did so until the very end.
Mike’s woodworking, his love for simple pleasures, and his knack for bringing joy to those around him will be fondly remembered by all who knew him. So, next time you have a cold one, lift the glass and say farewell to Mike, who lived long and lived well.

Our sincere condolences to the Baran family with the loss of Uncle Mike. We would visit him at his house whenever we came to Kelowna.. We still have a wooden wheelbarrow , wooden rolling pin that he made. He liked to keep busy in his shop. He will be missed by all that knew him..
My condolences to Mike’s family. I have many fond memories visiting when I was young. Thank you for being you Uncle Mike.
We were sad to hear about Uncle Mike’s passing. A very nice obituary by his loved ones. We will raise a cold one in his honor. I have many fond memories of our visits with Aunt Ruby and Uncle Mike in his downstairs bar, and raiding his garden as a kid. Hugs to you all.
