We Remember
BARBEIRO, Adelina “Lina” Maria
April 29, 1932 — December 24, 2023
Adelina Barbeiro passed away on December 24, 2023, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 91 years.
She is survived by her children Jaime (Denise) and Noelia (Chris); grandchildren Roger (Chantal), Jennifer, Kyle, Tristan, and Noah (Heather); great-grandchildren Braedan, Gabrielle, Logan, and Aurora; sister Natevidade Fernandez; and her beloved daughter-in-law Manuela. She was predeceased by her parents Jaime and Maria Martins; and 5 of her siblings.
She was born in Montiijo, Portugal, where she grew to become the caregiver of her community, taking on the roles of nurse and counsellor. In 1971, she immigrated to Canada, first to Vancouver, then to Squamish, and finally to West Kelowna, BC.
Adelina was independent and strong-willed. She did everything herself, especially if someone told her she couldn’t. She was a self-taught plumber, electrician, builder, and roofer. She was very artistic, enjoying knitting, crocheting, painting and sculpting clay figurines. She sculpted and painted figurines of the entire cast of The Wizard of Oz. She was also an excellent seamstress sewing clothing for kids, babies, and dolls.
Her garden was her pride and joy. She could grow plants that should not grow in the Canadian climate. She spent as much time as possible in her garden, lovingly tending to every bloom.
Adelina was loved by everyone. She was very sweet and affectionate and would take your face into her hands saying “God bless you”, or “You’re beautiful.” She brought joy to everyone who met her.
It was Adelina’s wish not to have a service. Please take time to honour this beautiful, creative, strong, and caring woman in your own way. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of your choice.

Dearest cousins…. our sincerest, heartfelt condolences to each of you.. I cherish the memories of my Tia Adelina. While I am saddened that she is no longer with us for our enjoyment of her wonderful humour, her amazing creativity and her loving nature, I am grateful she is at peace from illness & suffering. May she enjoy the most beautiful of gardens, have an abundance of love showered upon her from all the animals she loved in her lifetime, as well as having so much joy in reuniting with the loved ones that preceded her passage to the divine realm.. she will be remembered and missed. May each of us whose lives she touched, be comforted by the memories we hold of her and by continuing her legacy of love & laughter here together in her memory.
My aunt was a wonderful lady, it has saddened me greatly to realise that she is almost the last of a dying breed of great women in the family. May she forever rest in peace among the angels and all of the family that has preceded her. She was funny, artistic , best green thumb going , and she loved to feed everyone.
Even burglars were fed, even the police were amazed how she could charm one.
The world our world is poorer for having lost her. Til we meet again tia, love you hug all our loved ones in heavens garden❤️🌹
