We Remember

BATIREV, George

February 6, 1937 — December 2, 2021

George went to be with the Lord while surrounded by his family on December 2nd, 2021, at the age of 84. He was a man with many interests and talents. He spoke five languages, English, Russian, Chinese, Tatar and Uyghur. He was a fitter and turner by trade and worked in China and Australia, but ultimately sought the peacefulness of Canada in his twilight years. George was well versed in a variety of topics and was known for enjoying a good, robust debate. From a young age he developed a passion for herbal medicine and knew many homeopathic remedies for any ailment.

George loved to fish, was an avid gardener, a poet, a winemaker and an amazing cook. He was a gracious host who loved to entertain and BBQ while regaling guests with countless tales and anecdotes. He was a witty, charismatic charmer who loved to make people laugh. He was fiercely loyal and his family and the people he loved were very dear to him.

George is survived by his wife of ten years, Tamara; his three daughters Rufina (David), Sofiya (Kenan) and Nadia; his four step-children Svetlana, Joseph, Tania and Paul; his seven grandchildren Boghra, Farzia, Armand, Marcus, Aydan, Taliya and Derin; and five step-grandchildren Anya, Megan, Joseph, Nikkita and Milana. George will also be missed by his siblings Natasha, Larissa and Paul; his nieces and nephews Andrew, Serg, Dimitri, Anna, Kathy, Simon, and Louisa, and their children; and his many friends from all over the world. He was sadly predeceased by his father Lev; his mother Elena; his son Faruh; his siblings Flavian and Tamara; and his brother-in-law Alex.

There will be a Funeral Service on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9, 2021, at 11:00 AM, at the Church of Hope, 710 Lawson Ave, Kelowna, BC, with Pastor Paul Darmantchev officiating. Burial to follow at 1:00 pm at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, 1991 Bernard Ave, Kelowna, BC.

Garrik abi, as we fondly remember him as, will be sadly missed. As the first family we met when we arrived in Adelaide over 41 years ago, Garrik abi and the whole family were constant in our lives. He taught my parents to drive and go out of his way to help them settle in a foreign land, and ensure we all had somewhere to go for gatherings and never felt alone.
My parents are devastated with this very sad news. We often remember the good old days, of picnics, BBQ’s, the singing and stories.
    RIP Garrik Abi

Massive, heartfelt condolences to Tamara & all that knew & loved George. George was so full of life & continuously sported a massive smile. George was so kind & generous & always welcoming us into his home & made us feel like it was our own. So many amazing meals shared by him & Tamara. He always made us laugh with his witty humour. George will live on through all the amazing memories❤️🙏🏻💥
