We Remember

BAUER, Diane Charlotte (née Dalrymple)

February 26, 1937 — May 3, 2025

Diane Bauer passed away on May 3, 2025, at Kelowna General Hospital, with loving family at her side in her final moments.

Diane was born on February 26, 1937, in Los Angeles, California to John and Thelma Margarethe Dalrymple. She was the oldest of five children, followed by Jean (Fitch), Joseph Stephen, Joyce (Weber), and John Arthur.

She met the love of her life, Eldon Bauer, while completing her studies at La Sierra Academy. They married the summer after Diane graduated from high school and went on to have three beautiful daughters and share 67 loving years of marriage until Eldon passed away in 2022. Their life together was never dull, with time spent living in California, British Columbia and Idaho, as well as in Belgium and Africa on a mission for the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Diane was intelligent, strong, and determined (or stubborn, depending on who you asked). She spoke several languages and had many different careers over the years. After her youngest daughter, Lana, was old enough to go to school, Diane earned her medical secretary certification while working and raising her three girls. She enjoyed a pun more than some people would find reasonable. She loved music and played the piano for the Orchard City SDA church until arthritis started to rob her of that joy. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and she never missed an opportunity to share stories about their accomplishments. Diane had a heart big enough for everyone — she was a wonderful friend, and those who married into the family were instantly welcomed and loved as her own.

Diane was predeceased by her parents, John and Thelma Dalrymple; sister Jean; and brother John Arthur. Diane will be dearly missed by her children: Juanita (Peter) Watson, Dolores (Randy) Hess, Lana (Jim) Birdsell, and Bosco (Amina) Kayembe; as well as her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.

Her absence is felt by all who knew her, but we take comfort in the knowledge that she is now free of the grief she suffered after losing her beloved husband, Eldon.

The family will plan a Celebration of Life at a time to be determined.
