We Remember
BAUER, John
October 6, 1932 — September 16, 2018
John Bauer was born on October 6, 1932 in Wilkie, SK to parents John and Gisela (neé Bader) Bauer. He was one of 14 brothers and sisters. In 1954, at only 21 years old, John moved to Rosetown, SK where he managed a CO-OP Lumber yard. He married Joan Marchand in 1958. John and Joan had five children. In 1967, John moved his family to Outlook, SK for a few months before settling in St. Brieux, SK where he accepted a position managing a CO-OP General store. In 1973, John and Joan partnered with friends Doug and Laura Lustig to purchase an IGA Grocery store in Fort Qu’Appelle, SK. After 38 years in Fort Qu’Appelle, John and Joan retired to Kelowna, BC in 2011.
Despite having multiple sclerosis since 1963, John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed small town living, hunting, fishing, and camping. John was an entrepreneur and owned several businesses and properties in Fort Qu’Appelle. He loved gardening, was a shark on the pool table, and a menacing cribbage player. His quiet, gentle demeanour and dry sense of humour was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
John is survived by his loving wife Joan (neé Marchand) of 60 years, his children: Sandra (Paul Garret), Greg (Lynda), Rhonda (Dirk) Jongkind, and Stephen (Raelyn); nine grandchildren: Christopher, Nicholas, Shawn, Nicole, Jenna, Tyrel, Sarah, Scott, and Elise; two great grandchildren: Alexander and Livia; and his siblings: Raymond (Laurraine), Frank (Donna), Jim (Bev), Wayne (Linda, Doreen, June (Mel) and Yvonne. He is preceded in death by his baby daughter Janice, his parents John and Gisela Bauer and his siblings: Mary, Helen, Loretta, Eva, Rose and Isabelle.
John died in hospital on September 16, 2018 in Kelowna, BC due to complications following cancer surgery.
