We Remember
BAUGHEN, Penelope
February 11, 1947 — October 26, 2023
On October 26, 2023, Penelope Ann Baughen (née Hall), known by those close to her as Penny or Pen, passed peacefully with her loving Husband of 52 years by her side, Gordon Baughen. Penny was the proud mother of Cameron (Glory), Jason, and Callum (Alexa), and the loving grandmother of 7. She was incredibly close to her sisters, Nina and Wendy, and loved her brother, Denis, and all of their extended families.
Throughout her life, her adventures took her across the world. She travelled by herself and with dear friends through Europe, Africa, and North America before settling in Vancouver, BC. The get-togethers at the Turner street house helped start and nurture lifelong friendships.
She married Gordon in a small ceremony in 1971 on the promise he would provide “Three sons and an old English sheepdog”.
Penny fell in love with the four seasons of the Okanagan, and Penny and Gordon soon found their home of what would become 50 years in Whiskey Cove in the community of Carrs Landing. Her three sons were born within 18 months.
Penny remained committed to community causes, all the while raising her boys and supporting Gordon to grow his business. She volunteered across the community for various groups, sat on the first Council for the District of Lake Country, and authored the book: “Carr’s Landing: A History”.
She held a special place in her heart for the country of New Zealand and in particular the town Russell, where she spent months puttering and enjoying the view.
Her grandchildren were never left wanting for her chocolate skor bar cookies or the ‘brown stuff’.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family would ask for donations to the Kelowna Hospice House or BC Cancer Foundation.

Gordon, Jason and Family: I am so very very sorry to read of Penny’s passing. I always enjoyed seeing her at the Capri events and we often shared many laughs. We joked Gordon was finally a somebody when she was elected. How proud she must have been of the three good men her sons became. Again, I am heartfully sorry for your loss and wish you all Peace. Sheila
