Condolences

  • Linda Gagnon says:

    Carla and Ian & family,
Your mom was a lovely friend, with the best memory I’ve ever witnessed. She was considerate, generous and helped celebrate birthdays with a card and gift. We started work at the ORL at the same time and continued our friendship after her retirement. She loved you all so much and was so pleased when she became a grandmother. She often shared pictures and stories of her family and was so proud of you. She was a great lady and will be missed.

  • Kim Ito says:

    Ian and family,
Please know that you are in my thoughts and know that you are surrounded by friends and family during this difficult time. She will be missed.

    With deepest sympathies,
    Kim Ito and family

    • Ian says:

      Thanks, Kim.
I seem to recall that your family went through this just a few years ago too.
It’s been a busy time for me and my sister, but we will undoubtedly be back in Kelowna several times in the coming months. It would be great to see you sometime.

  • Margaret and Don Chutter says:

    Dear Clara and Ian:

This will confirm our brief condolences expressed on the telephone. As mentioned, our relationship with your mother goes back a long way — to 1955 when she and I were among the three (chosen from over 300 applicants) sent out to work in the Dutch Embassy in Ottawa. Soon she met Don and we were delighted that she acted as Matron of Honour at our wedding in Rotterdam in 1959.

Subsequently, when she emigrated to Canada, we met from time to time either in Kelowna or in Ottawa and kept in contact by mail or phone — your mother was extremely diligent in remembering our birthdays and wedding anniversary!

Notwithstanding her health problems and a prolonged widowhood, she remained cheerful and and manifested her gentle and generous disposition throughout.

Don joins me in extending our deepest sympathies and in wishing you strength during this difficult time. Perhaps you could send us your e-mail or postal addresses?

    Margaret Chutter

  • Deb Willis says:

    Dearest Carla,
As one of my most faithful and loyal friends (of 31 years), I offer my heartfelt sympathy and support to you and your family in this very difficult time of your life. Just like your Mom looked after everyone, you also have looked after your loved ones and now you must look after yourself. I am here when you get back for a shoulder to lean on. Take care of yourself and God bless.
    Deb Willis

  • Henny Willemen-van Gelder says:

    Dear Carla,
So sorry to learn that Clara is no longer among us, but she remains in our heart.
I have such good memories of your mother which date from my early childhood (1960’s) when Clara lived at “Tante’s” place (Mrs Bastiaens) in the Fuutstraat in Rotterdam where my parents and I moved to after my beloved ‘Tante’ passed away.
I surely will miss our annual letters, at year-end, holiday greetings and the surprise of receiving Clara’s card on my birthday.

My condolences also to Ian, Katherine and Joshua, also on the part of my parents. Wishing you all strength; it is hard to lose your mother.
    Henny Willemen
