We Remember
BEATON, Donald J.
July 31, 1933 — January 19, 2017
Passed away peacefully with his wife Fritze of 30 years by his side on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at the age of 83. He will be missed by his brother Bill of Canmore; sister Margaret Lee of Mississauga; nephews Billie and Jim Beaton and Robert Lee of Ontario, as well as many wonderful friends in Winnipeg, Kelowna and Florida.
Don was born in Winnipeg and resided there until his retirement. He was in the glass business for most of his life and had made many good friends through his work. Many wonderful summers were spent in Clearwater Bay and winters in Punta Gorda, Florida. In 2003, he moved to Kelowna where he enjoyed the milder winters. He was able to enjoy many cruises and winter vacations in Palm Springs. Unfortunately he suffered from many illnesses and was very restricted in his activities during his last few years.
The family wish to thank the caring staff in the emergency unit and on 3East at Kelowna General Hospital. They made Don’s last few hours as comfortable as possible. The family would also like to thank Dr. H. N. Reeves who treated Don’s COPD for many years and cared so deeply. We will forever miss his smile and many stories of his life before AA – of which he was a proud member for 28 years.
At his request, there will be no service. Interment has taken place in Kelowna. His wish was to be buried next to his father in the family plot in Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg, however sadly that was not to be.

Dear Fritze;
It’s been a long struggle for Don, and it’s been a long road for you. I appreciate this picture of Don looking so handsome and happy, as the last few times he was in the shop, I could tell he was getting tired. I am very sorry for your loss and I will think of you both often. You are both such nice people and it’s been a pleasure knowing you. My sincere condolences to you and all of Don’s family.
Rhonda
