We Remember
BECKER, Phyllis June
June 10, 1934 — April 21, 2019
Phyllis passed away peacefully on April 21, 2019 surrounded by family. She was born June 10, 1934 in Vanguard Saskatchewan to parents Rose and Jack Dorwart – she was one of 5 beautiful daughters/sisters. In time, the Dorwart family moved west to British Columbia and lived in the Kootenays before eventually relocating to the Okanagan. Phyllis (Mom) met and married Douglas Becker in Oliver, BC and together raised 4 sons in numerous locations throughout BC. Mom was known as “that feisty red head” and was always in the center of countless family get togethers singing and often playing her accordion. She loved to entertain and was a great cook, passionate gardener, enjoyed many different handicrafts, loved her numerous animals and pets and enjoyed camping and fishing. In her later years Mom moved from Cranbrook to Kelowna to be closer to family and friends.
Sadly, Mon was pre-deceased by husband Douglas in 1998 and son Terry in 2012. She is survived by her sons Rocky, Gary, and Larry and 8 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, her sisters Louella Steffen, Lillian McKay, Eilen Fisher, and Sharon Fantuz
The Becker family would like to thank the staff at Springvalley Care Home during Mom’s final days. Their care and compassion were comforting and greatly appreciated.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Phyllis to be held in Kelowna at a later date this summer. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, https://alzheimer.ca/en/Home/Get-involved/Ways-to-donate.
