We Remember
BESKIDNYJ, Maria
—
On August 07, 2023, Maria Beskidnyj went to be with the Lord at the age of 99.
She is survived by her daughter, Anna Therrien; son, Stefan; grandchildren Lisa Martinez, Andre Therrien, Michele Wood, Cameron Beskidnyj, Nicholas Beskidnyj, and Chris Hawryluk; and her great-grandchildren Elena Martinez, and Veronica Martinez. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Iwan.
Maria was born to Nickolai and Anastasia Dupak on July 10, 1924,in a small village in western Ukraine called Snovichi. She had two sisters and a brother that were dear to her heart. Life was hard during those times with the family having very little money and very little food.
Maria enjoyed spending her time with family and friends. Family was everything. During World War II, Maria had the chance to leave home and start a new life, eventually she moved to Toronto, ON. Along the way, she got married and had a daughter and a son. She kept her Ukrainian roots and traditions close to her heart; holding holiday feasts at her home was her passion. She enjoyed making traditional Ukrainian dinners and watching people eat, always telling people, “Eat, eat!”.
Maria’s other passion was the cottage near Lake Simcoe in Ontario. She loved the fresh air, working in the garden, and meeting up with her Ukrainian friends. Becoming a grandmother and a great-grandmother was a joy for her. She enjoyed playing with them, feeding them, rocking them to sleep, and taking them to the park. With a family of 12 at one time, she always remembered birthdays; she would send out a card with money inside. She would always put others before herself. She had a beautiful smile and beautiful human qualities.
Maria, you will always be remembered.

Maria was lovely lady that I met at Orchard Gardens. I always enjoyed talking with her when I visited my mom (Rose Kardynal). I’m sure both ladies are still sharing their stories……sorry for your loss.
