We Remember

BEST, William Albert “Bill”

August 12, 1933 — September 5, 2024

Bill Best, beloved husband, father, and friend, went to be with the Lord at the age of 91 on September 5, 2024.

Bill is survived by his wife of 63 years, Grace; his three sons, Glen (Merri), Dave (Sharon), and Robert (Nicole); his eight grandchildren, Mandy (Josh) Gall, Josh (Kelsey) Best, Amber (Derek) Reese, Sarah (Michael) Baumgarden, Amy (Mason) Motes, Ridley Best, Carson Best, and Lauren Best; and his eight great-grandchildren; as well as his brother-in-law Cliff (Janie) Silverthorne; sister-in-law Marion Best; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A proud graduate of the University of British Columbia with a degree in engineering, Bill embarked on a long and distinguished career with BC Hydro. His work took him all over the province and made a lasting impression on the communities he served.

When Bill retired at 60, he and Grace made their home in the community of SandPointe in Kelowna, BC, where they enjoyed good friendships and the tranquility of the lakes nestled in the valley of the surrounding mountains. Bill and Grace’s summers were spent in Sorrento, BC along the shore of Shuswap Lake, where the family gathered frequently to create cherished memories. Winters found them basking in the sun in Maui, savouring the beauty and relaxation of the island.

An avid traveller, Bill enjoyed exploring new places, but his heart was always drawn back to Canada – to attend the annual fishing trips with his sons, a favourite tradition. Their boat, aptly named “Amazing Grace,” was a central part of these adventures. Bill’s love for the outdoors and active lifestyle was evident in his many pursuits such as skiing and jogging (he really enjoyed the beauty of the Mission Creek Greenway while out on a routine jog).

Bill is remembered for his constant dedication to his family and his professional achievements. Those fortunate enough to know him will carry his memory close.

A Celebration of Life will be held in May 2025. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
