We Remember

BEST, Paul Leslie

March 26, 1958 — February 7, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul Best, who passed away peacefully in Kelowna, BC surrounded by loved ones on February 7, 2024, at the age of 65.

Paul was born on March 26, 1958 in Brantford, ON to Ralph and Mary Best. Paul grew up in Brantford, ON and moved to Calgary, AB in 1980, where he obtained a Degree in Geology from the University of Calgary. He met the love of his life, Doris, on New Year’s Eve in 1997. They married on April 3, 2015, in Calgary, AB and eventually moved to West Kelowna, BC in February 2016. There he retired in February 2021.

Paul became a beloved member of the community. He could be found playing cards, chatting, and laughing with friends and neighbours. Paul also found peace in the beauty of the B.C. wilderness, often taking long walks along the lake and to the Gellatly Nut Farm, one of his favourite spots.

Paul leaves behind his wife Doris; his son Tristin (Samatha) from Montreal, QC; his mother Mary and brother Glen (Laurel), all from Oakville, ON.  He also leaves behind his nieces Emily from Oakville, ON and Madison (Nicholas) from Hamilton, ON.

Paul will be remembered fondly for being a loving husband, a caring father, an amazing brother and uncle, and a fun-loving and thoughtful friend.

Paul is also survived by his former wife, Anita Proverbs, from Calgary, AB, the mother of his son Tristan.

Predeceased by his father Ralph Best from Simcoe, ON; as well as his father-in-law Albert Sauvageau and sister-in-law Vivianne Doucet, both from Falher, AB.

A celebration of Paul’s life will be held in the summer of 2024. An announcement will be made at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
