We Remember

BILLY, Raye

September 12, 1930 — June 25, 2025

It is with great love and admiration that we announce the loss of Raye Billy, who passed away on June 25, 2025, at the age of 94.

Raye is survived by his son, Stephen (Brian); family Kim and Debbie, Sandra, Audrey, Mary Lou, Helen, Valerie, Melvin, Lorne, Bruce, Paul, Darryl, Brian, Annette and Donnie.

He now goes to join his wife of 67 years, Alice; and son Dean, who passed before him.

Raye was born in Brokenhead Manitoba to his parents, Stephan and Anna Billy. He was a naturally curious and thoughtful person who liked to understand how things worked, whether it was an idea, a machine, or the people around him. He had a quiet confidence, a sharp mind, and a love for reading that kept him well-informed and engaged with the world.

He met the love of his life, his soulmate, Alice, and they were married on August 11, 1956. Together, they built a life full of connection, laughter, and deep companionship. They were truly partners in every sense, and after Alice’s passing in 2024, Raye missed her deeply. It broke his heart. He often said, “I will always be your Ray of Sunshine, and you will always be my Alice in Wonderland.” Those words stayed close to his heart.

Raye had a great sense of humour, and he could fix just about anything. Whether he was tinkering in the garage or working on a woodworking, renovating projects, his hands were rarely idle. He liked simple things: a good walk, a quiet evening, time spent with people he cared about. He was a family man and provided for them, he looked after everything to the end.

He’ll be deeply missed for his steadiness, his kindness, and knowledge. He is at peace now reunited with Alice and Dean. Love you forever.

A private family service will be held in honour of Raye.

Thank you Uncle Raye for filling in the blanks to some of my questions of our family history. May you Rest in Peace, reunite with your loved ones and look over those you loved. Peace be with you.

Thanks you both so much, Dean passed away March 23, 2002. So it’s just myself and Brian. Miss them both very much. Stephen

  • Nancy Weedle says:

I worked closely for Raye from 1983 to 1990 at Chevron Canada when I was just beginning my career. Raye was so easy to work for and was the best boss I had. He was kind and caring with a sparkle in his eye. When I would leave a little early with some Chevron girlfriend to play 18 holes of golf on a nice mid-summer evening, Raye never protested and instead told me to have fun. I really appreciated his guidance and wisdom. I had heard he moved to Kelowna where I am sure he enjoyed his retirement. So sorry for your loss of your Dad and family member. My deepest condolences but please know he was well thought of at Chevron.
