We Remember
BJORK, Wade Richard
May 27, 1946 — May 9, 2016
Wade passed away on Monday, May 9th at the Kelowna General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Predeceased by his parents Norwood and Phyllis (Marr) Bjork and two sisters Darlene Kennedy and Shelley Fylyshtan. Survived by his wife Elaine Chays and his children Lance and Adele, son in law Allen Hartley and granddaughter Dakota. Also survived by four nieces – Lori and Leasa Kennedy, Shawna and Dawn Fylyshtan as well as his former wife Wanda and several cousins and friends. Wade was born in Wayne, Alberta. He grew up on a farm in the village of Nampa, 27 km south of Peace River. Wade got his first “Roy Rogers” guitar for Christmas when he was seven years old. He has been playing guitar ever since for paid entertainment as well as family and friends. He particularly enjoyed playing for family and friends at home “JAMMING” just for the sheer enjoyment of it. His favorite music was “OLD TIME COUNTRY”, he loved playing Johnny Cash and Hank Williams Sr. He loved working on the farm and at eight years old he started operating the big combine machines. He was a hard worker and got so good at it that neighboring farmers would take him out of school to work for them. Wade moved to Westbank with his parents, who ran the Pine Grove Motel, when he was fourteen years old. He worked at Reeces fruit packing house in Westbank for a few years, then went on to operate the forklift at Gorman Brothers sawmill for approximately ten years. He left Gormans to pursue his luck in the trucking industry. He bought his first single axel gravel truck before he was thirty and formed his company “Bjork & Son Trucking”. When he sold his trucking company he went to work for another company as an employee instead of owner operator. Wade had to quit working in 2002 due to medical reasons. To sum it all up, Wade was a hard worker, great employee, father and husband who will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved him.
