BLACKLOCK, Joanna
—
It is with great sadness that the family of Joanna announce her passing on September 21, 2020, at the age of 80. She was predeceased by her husband Roger and son David. Joanna is survived by her sister Mandy Latiff; daughters Nancy Brandon, Judy Lauer (Miles), Lisa Blacklock, and Mark Blacklock (Sharon); grandsons Kyle Brandon (Robyn Burgess) and Ethan Blacklock; and one great-granddaughter Averie Burgess-Brandon.
Joanna was born in England, immigrated to Canada as a teenager where she later met and married her husband Roger. They lived in Calgary, Fort McMurray and later retired in Kelowna.
Joanna was a very active member of her community. She donated endless hours of her time. She was involved with the Elizabeth Fry Society, Community Policing, Victim Services and the Seniors Living & Retirement centre.
She was dedicated to her family and loved by everyone that knew her. She had many lifelong friends and only had kind words to share. Her kindness, warmth, generosity and humour will be greatly missed.

Reg and I send our sincere condolences. Your Mom was a wonderful lady and she will be missed. I was lucky to live with Nancy’s family so I could finish my grade 12 in Fort McMurray. I decided to make a cake for supper one night and it didn’t turn out well at all. Out of frustration I stabbed it with a fork and left it on the kitchen counter and off i went to work. Upon my arrival back home and to my surprise Joanna had fixed it up and iced it and it looked wonderful. We had it for dessert and I have always remembered her kindness.
Our sincere sympathies to all of Aunt Joanna’s family. I didn’t get to see her often, but she was a great help when doing the Blacklock family history. Jim, Lynn, Stacy and Mandy Blacklock and families
Im sad to hear of the passing of Aunt Joanna. I have good memories of Uncle Roger and Aunt Joanna coming to visit when I was little. My thoughts are with you at this time.
It was with great sadness to hear of Aunt Joanna’s passing last week! Marilyn and I enjoyed our visit with her and the girls two years ago in Kelowna. We were looking forward to seeing her again in the near future as she was looking Great. I also have fond memories of Joanna and Roger stopping in at the farm over the summers when we were small. To Joanna’s family, truly a wonderful tribute today for a wonderful lady (LIVE STREAMING) @ Springfield Funeral Home. Grief never ends…but it changes. it’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor lack of faith. It is the priced of love.:
The service for Joanna was really lovely. She was truly loved.
We first met a couple of years ago in the ‘memoires’ class at SLR. Weekly our group shared life stories as we practiced our writing.
What a privilege for this intimate group, as Joanna revealed her talents and passion for writing. When it was her turn to read, with a smile and often a giggle, Joanna would entertain us with her life narratives.
I felt the emotions and moods of her school days in England. I felt her culture shock as a teenager moving to Canada. Joanna took us back to her days in Ft. MacMurray where I sensed a warmth of community. I smiled at her description of their foray into the ‘mobile’ ice-cream business!
Joanna shared her scrap books, her writings, and her intimate feelings with kindness, humour and authenticity. Thanks.
