We Remember
BLEACKLEY, Dorothy Viola
March 8, 1921 — November 6, 2024
Dorothy Viola Bleackley, passed away peacefully at her home in Kelowna, BC, on November 6, 2024, at the age of 103. Born on March 8, 1921, in Mariposa Township, Ontario, Dorothy lived a long, fulfilling life full of love, laughter, and adventures.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Robert; her daughter Sandy; son Ted; sisters Stella, Myla, and Pearl; and brother Roscoe. She is survived by her son Bud (Nena); daughter-in-law Barb Bleackley; granddaughter Tia; great-grandchildren Kiera (Tony), Teegan (John), Baylee (Spencer), Amber-Lee, Patrick, and Zenaya; and her great-great-grandchildren Cherree and Athena.
A woman of strength and warmth, Dorothy was outgoing, generous, and always had a bright outlook on life. She had a deep love for travel, and along with her husband Robert, spent many years exploring the United States in their RV. They would often sleep overnight in Target parking lots, finding joy in the simple pleasures of the road.
In the summer months, Dorothy found her second home at the Holiday Park Resort, in Lake Country, BC, where she loved spending time with friends and family. A passionate gardener, Dorothy’s pride and joy were her roses and grapevines.
Dorothy was known for her generous spirit, always giving what she could to others. She had a gift for making people feel at ease and was easy to bond with – her kindness and warmth left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She was a woman of many talents, including her ability to make the most perfect eggs and the best lemon meringue pie, which were family favourites. Dorothy didn’t like conflict and always preferred to look at the bright side of things.
One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren, reading them stories, and walking them to school. Her bond with them was filled with love and affection, and she treasured those moments above all else.
Mom and lovely Gramma, rest in peace. Your memory will continue to shine brightly in our hearts, and we will forever cherish the lessons you taught us about love, kindness, and living each day to its fullest.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Sharon Duguay for her caring support and warm friendship with Dorothy, and for her steadfast support of us as well.
Family and friends will honour her, each in their own way. No formal service will be held. Dorothy’s final resting place will be with her husband Robert, at Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, Kelowna, BC.

Our Grandma Dorothy will be missed by her other grandchildren, myself and Sparky as well as her GREAT grandchildren Amber and Patrick Labonte!! RIP Grandma Dorothy!
Grandma Dorothy was a very special lady. We enjoyed our talks on the phone; catching up and learning all about her time on the farm in Ontario as a child.. Dorothy was such a special woman and meant a great deal to us. We used to love to listen to her many stories and enjoyed the fact that she pulled no punches! Her honesty, humour and great memory are what stand out most to us. We will miss our chats on the phone Grandma Dorothy. XO
