We Remember

BLOCHA, Sheila Mae

October 23, 1961 — October 16, 2026

Sheila Blocha was born on October 23, 1961, in Eston, SK. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 16, 2026, in Kelowna, BC, at the age of 64.

Sheila grew up in Peachland, where she lived at the Totem Inn, now the Edgewater. She spent her summers suntanning and swimming in Okanagan Lake and loved telling the story of the day she swam all the way across the lake to Rattlesnake Island. It was one of those memories from her younger years that stayed with her throughout life.

Sheila worked hard throughout her whole life, spending many years landscaping and gardening. Her touch can still be seen throughout West Kelowna, where she helped create beautiful yards that will carry a little piece of her for years to come.

In later years, Sheila enjoyed the simple things in life: country music turned up loud, solar lights glowing around her space, a cold beer on her deck and her faithful dog, Highway, at her feet (the best boy ever). She also loved picking fresh hydrangeas to arrange into beautiful bouquets for everyone to enjoy. Her love for her flowers will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her.

Sheila was stubborn right to the very end, with a strong will and spirit all her own. But beneath that stubbornness was a compassionate heart and a deep love for the people in her life. She will be remembered for being unapologetically herself.

Sheila is survived by her children, Sarah McDonald (Nathan McTeer) and Ben McDonald (Kristy Shyiak); her grandson, Walker; her stepbrother, Kenton (Debbie); her stepsister, Sandra; and her best friend, Jeanie, and Jeanie’s daughters, Cal and Amanda. She was predeceased by her parents, Arlene and John Blocha; her brother, Ivan Blocha; and her faithful friend, Highway.

We feel such profound loss with the passing of our mom and grandma; we are grateful for the memories we shared with her that help fill the giant Sheila-shaped hole she leaves behind.
