  • Elizabeth Horvath (Jones) says:

Dear Carol & family, I am so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. He was uncle to my kids when they were very young. I was married to his first wife’s brother then. I lost my husband 4 yrs ago at age 52. I remember Doug coming to pay his respects when my youngest daughter was born. Not many guys would do that. He also had some quiet words of wisdom for me many years ago that I did not forget. Please accept my mother’s (Katy Horvath, Vancouver) condolences as well as she also remembers Doug from the 60s & 70s when he worked for Guinness. She was surprised of his passing. Whenever I see a 1957/58 chev I think of Doug as I think that was the car he had around 1964/66 time period. I remember when he took up barbering in the 70s and was told that they had to shave balloons for practise. I always wondered how many balloons made it through the lesson! He was and I see from the photo remained a handsome man. Again, our condolences to you and your family and Stacey & Lee Bogle.

  • Frank Kirby says:

My shock to have heard of Doug’s passing.
Old school mate from the Burnaby days, then Barber colleagues in our adult life. Cutting Doug’s hair till his move to Westbank.
Passing by the Barber shop in the summers on my motorcycle.
    What a sad loss.
    May he rest in peace!

  • John & Marg Burke says:

We meet Doug & Carol when they moved across the street from us. (Westbank)
Not only did he mow lawns, he also bought them which he would fix or have them fixed, he would sell, keep or give them away..
When he barbered he would have the customers in stitches with his humor.
He also took up wood work, which he knew little about, he would ask me (John ) for advice on what he need to do, or what power tools he needing to make all the request for furniture he made.
As for me (Marg) he always had a treat for my dog, and a joke or story to tell.

  • Ruth Leckie says:

Carol, I have never met you, but I imagine you are a wonderful person. Being married to a great guy like Doug. I met Doug when we were teenagers in the east end. We hung around with the same group of teenagers for several years, one of our favourite places was Danceland in downtown Vancouver and then eventually we all went our own way. I became a Barber/ Hairdresser and bumped into Doug again. He had not changed a bit. I used to tease him about looking like Johnny Carson. But I thought Doug was better looking! I’ve thought of Doug often over the years and I’m sorry to hear of his passing at such a young age. God bless you and your family and thank you for allowing me to leave this condolence. Ruth Leckie

  • Carol Bogle says:

  • Randy Debenham says:

Dear Carol and family, I’m very sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. It’s about 20 years ago that we worked together at the old Nevada Bob’s in Surrey on King George Hwy. He used to always call to check in on his days off to make sure the store was still there and I can still hear him coming on the phone saying “yah it’s me.” He even gave me the odd haircut thru the years when things were quiet in the store. My Dad and I also had lots of visits with doug at Riverside and would wheel and deal with him on new clubs and often hit balls together on the range. I’ve always held Doug in high regard and again am sorry to hear of his passing.

  • Mary & Michael Wilkins says:

Carol, our sincere condolences to you and your family on Doug’s passing.I met Doug five years ago when he started to periodically cut our lawn. Doug, became an inspiration to us with his humour and mannerisms. We admired Doug for his respectfulness of humanity and his kindness to everyone he came in contact with.
Doug was and will remain the King of Smith Creek Ranch for his humanitarian attributes and will never be forgotten. Mary and I have planted a tree in our yard in Doug’s memory.
As Doug’s tree reaches great heights, our memory of Doug will grow exponentially as each new branch reaches higher in his honour.
    Mary & Michael
