I met Anne when she and Howard came to look at a house on Imperial in Burnaby, which had been converted into apartments. Jerry was 3 months old and Mindy was 3 weeks old.
Anne and I spend the rest of her life being one of my best friends.
A favorite memory is when Anne’s family and ours went on a camping trip to Cultus Lake, (outside of Chilliwack) BC. Making our lists, we both ended up bringing enough food for 40 days, not 4 days! On our way to the campground, our family stopped to buy corn and bought 3 dozen (2 hungry men and a couple of hungry little boys). Well, Anne did the same – needless to say, there was LOTS of corn to be had!
Anne loved to play Canasta – she and I were partners, and my mother May and Howard were partners. Anne and I would have to stop and care for the boys as they were little, and we always wondered why we never won…Howard and my mom were always stacking the deck!
Over the years, Anne and I drank many cups of coffee, smoked many cigarettes, and talked as only best friends do.
In her later years, after Anne and Howard moved to the trailer park, Anne took up the hobby of wine making – 4 pm was “wine time”. I would enjoy a glass or 2 when I had taken the bus from Kelowna to Winfield to stay with them for a few days.
Anne was one of my life’s best friends …… and I will miss her.
