We Remember

BOOTSMAN, Brian Neil

March 1, 1958 — June 29, 2024

Brian’s courageous battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer ended on June 29, 2024, where he passed peacefully with his two daughters and their partners at his side.

Brian was predeceased by his parents, Tilda and Bram Bootsman; and is survived by his brother, Vince (Dale) Bootsman (Grace); mother of his daughters, Sharon (John); daughters Bree Cocquyt (Dylan), and Baillie Bootsman (Luke); and grandchildren, Everleigh, Knox, Aiden, Noah, and Madison; and many deeply loved friends.

Brian was born in Edmonton, Alberta, and attended schools both in his city of birth and in Burnaby, BC. Brian had a number of successful careers but most notably, was an auxiliary RCMP member for over 20 years and had an admirable IT career in the health industry for the last two decades.

Brian was well-known for his sense of humour, cheerful demeanour, and willingness to lend a hand. He loved airplanes, trains, good books, and a good card game. Brian was no stranger to living a full and vibrant life, he traveled often, made friends with ease, and was an honorary dad and beloved Uncle to many. He was happiest surrounded by loved ones and eating good food.

If you knew and loved him, and are wondering how to honour him, please consider donating financially, or with blood or plasma, to the Canadian Blood Services or the Central Okanagan Hospice Association  who provided him with excellent care in his final phase of life.

A Memorial Service will be held on THURSDAY, AUGUST 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM, located at the KF Centre for Excellence, 5800 Lapointe Dr, Kelowna, BC.

Condolences

  • Sharon McAmmond (Jefferd) says:

I met Brian in Edmonton, where we marched together with the 1st Canadian Regiment as teenagers. Even then he had a great sense of humour, and was a very chilled happy guy, always with his famous smile! So sorry to hear he passed.

  • Sherry Trauet says:

To Brian’s family and friends, I am so very sorry for your loss. I met Brian back in 2009 when I started with IHA, and we shared conversations over the years. He always spoke of his girls, ladies, he was so proud of you, he had the biggest smile when he talked about your accomplishments and goals. He loved you more than anything. His technical abilities when it came to setting up computer “stuff” was unbelievable. I remember when he came to Cranbrook to set up a course and get everything running, nobody around here could. I’m sure he will continue to watch over his girls for eternity.

  • Martin Deheer says:

So sad to hear of Brian’s passing. Many fond memories of his friendship including our exploits kayaking off the west coast of Vancouver Island.
I also had the pleasure of working with him at IHA and his knowledge of IT systems was a great resource when we were developing new education and meeting spaces in our facilities. He possessed an engaging smile and an easy laugh.

  • Karen Scott (nee Olson) says:

Sincerest condolences to Sharon, Baillie, Bree, and family. When I heard from Dan of Brian’s passing, I was shocked and saddened for all of you. The four of us spent many times in our young twenties having dinners and playing card games together. I miss those years. I saw Brian a few years ago while at a family funeral and it was good to catch up. I will be thinking of you all on August 15th and I hope you can find peace and comfort in each other. Many hugs.
