Dear Joan,
It was with great sadness that I heard about the passing of your beloved husband ,Derek.
Please accept my sincere condolences for such a great loss.
We pray for the exaltation of his luminous soul in all the kingdoms of God.
May his soul be cherished with the token of God’s all-encompassing mercy.
With loving greetings, Marsel ( Rotary Club of Lake Country, BC, Canada )
We have surely lost a great Rotarian, but also a good friend. We cherish the times spent with Derek and Joan, late-night conversations about England, family, and of course, Rotary. Derek was passionate about all the great things Rotary does, and worked tirelessly to lead others in our district toward that same passion. Derek was a great mentor to me as we went through the district governor line, and following him made my year so much easier. Our prayers are for God’s peace for Joan and the family during this time of transition.
The members of the Rotary Club of Kelowna Sunrise express their sincere condolences to Joan and the family and wish to acknowledge how much they appreciated Derek’s leadership as their District Governor, his guidance with respect to Rotary Foundation matters while he served as the District’s Foundation Chair and the sharing of his knowledge of the Permanent Fund.
Derek will be remembered and appreciated for his leadership, guidance and passion and commitment for service through Rotary.
Our heart goes out to you Joan, and your family,as a Rotarian Derek exemplified what Rotary is,and he was a great mentor to me.
He was, and is: a child of the Universe.

Dear Joan
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time.
I attended the service but as Shirley was home sick I am sorry I could not stay afterwards to personally express our sympathy.
My time working with Derek was very satisfying and given the caliber of his work and his dedication to the task I am not at all surprised at the contribution he obviously made to Rotary.
You obviously have a great family and I am sure they are a great comfort to you at this stressful time.
Once again our prayers are with you.
Gordon and Shirley
