We Remember
BOULTON, John
May 14, 1931 — August 3, 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Boulton on August 3, 2023, with family at his side, at the age of 92.
John is survived by Joan, his wife of 69 years; his children, Nigel (Kim) and Jill; grandchildren Matt (Courtney), Regan (Marlo), Chris (Janine), and Erin; and great-grandchildren Hudson and Ella. He was predeceased by his parents, Samuel and Annie; brother Cyril; and son-in-law Bob.
John was born in Yorkshire, England in 1931 and met Joan in 1942 at Grammar School; they married in 1954. He attended Kings College, University of London, where he obtained his Phd in Physical Chemistry in 1956. John worked for the UK Atomic Energy Authority prior to uprooting the family and moving to Canada in 1964 to take up a position at the Whiteshell Nuclear Research Establishment in Pinawa Manitoba. He spent his entire career working in the nuclear industry in the UK, in Canada with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, and also consulting with the International Atomic Energy Agency based in Vienna, Austria. He and Joan lived in Manitoba, Ontario, and Alberta before settling in the beautiful city of Kelowna, BC in 2015.
John loved golfing and was still on the links well into his 80’s. He sang in school and church choirs on both sides of the Atlantic and had a beautiful baritone voice. John was a scotch connoisseur and loved his single malts – always taken neat. He made friends wherever he went, whether through his work, golfing, community involvement or, on one of his long daily walks.
The family invites you to remember John in your own way. To honour John’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Memorial donations may be sent to the BC Cancer Foundation or the KGH Foundation.

Many, many, memories. Many, many, condolences.
With deepest sympathy to the Bolton family. We will miss his kindness, greeting smiles and his strolling around the garden.
Les worked with John during his first years at Whiteshell and we both knew them socially in Pinawa. Many condolences to Joan and family.
