We Remember

BRADY, Matthew Peter

May 9, 1964 — August 20, 2026

It is with profound sadness that Matthew’s family announces his sudden passing on August 20, 2026, in Kelowna, British Columbia, at the age of 62.

Matthew, the son of Peter and Ann Brady, was born in Regina, Saskatchewan, and raised in Victoria alongside his younger siblings, Paul and Laurel. From an early age, Matt was endlessly curious about the world around him—a quality that remained central to who he was throughout his life.

Matt began his professional life as a hairstylist, training in Victoria and at Suki’s Academy in Vancouver. His true passion was colour, and he excelled as a colour specialist, bringing creativity, precision, and a distinctive touch to his work.

After moving to Kelowna, Matt found his place in the world of agriculture, particularly in orchard life. He fell in love with the land, the work, and, most importantly, the people. His orchard family and the friendships he formed there gave him a deep sense of belonging and allowed his independence, knowledge, hard work, and love of the outdoors to flourish.

Matt was a force of nature—curious, capable, resourceful, and passionate about life. He loved figuring things out, learning new skills, and taking on almost any challenge. A natural survivalist, he could fix, build, grow, or improvise his way through nearly anything.

He loved the outdoors, especially gold panning, growing and picking mushrooms, gardening, and working among the trees. He took great pride in his work pruning apple and pear trees and in his garden, particularly his beautiful poppies. He adored his cats, loved to cook and experiment with new recipes, and enjoyed sharing good food, red wine, music, and conversation with those he loved.

Matt will perhaps be remembered most for his vivid mind and wicked sense of humour. He was clever, thoughtful, kind, generous, and fiercely independent, with a stubborn streak that was simply part of who he was. He had an uncanny ability to say exactly the right—or sometimes completely wrong—thing at exactly the right moment, and he could make people laugh when they needed it most.

His special friend Em captured him beautifully:
“His voice, his humor, his brilliant mind, and his stubbornness left an unforgettable mark on my life. I’ll miss him every single day, but more than anything, I was incredibly lucky to have him as my friend.”

Matthew will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Peter and Ann; his brother, Paul; his sister, Laurel (Gregor); and his nieces and nephews, April, Annie, Reid, and Macgregor.

He will be deeply missed by his best and most treasured friend, Em; his close friends Steve and Fred; and the many people who became part of his extended orchard family.
Matthew was predeceased by his much-loved Granny, Mona Fairbairn.

Matt leaves behind a life marked by curiosity, hard work, laughter, friendship, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his remarkable resourcefulness, his sharp wit, and the unmistakable impression he left on the people fortunate enough to know him.
