We Remember

BROOKS, Aubrey Stephen

August 31, 1924 — December 31, 2018

Aubrey Stephen Brooks passed peacefully into the joy of Jesus, surrounded by his family, at the age of 94. Many thanks to the staff of Village at Mill Creek for their loving and excellent care for the last 2 years. We so appreciate your kindness in his last days. He will be lovingly remembered by Olive, his wife of 72 years. He is survived by son Terry Brooks (Ruth), son Randy Brooks (Kate), daughter Sandra Scott (Barry), six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Aubrey was predeceased by his parents and sister, Helen. He is loved by his siblings: Yvonne, Grace and Bob.

Aubrey spent his early years in Saskatchewan. He joined the navy and was deployed to a frigate during WWII. After marrying Olive, the love of his life, he moved to Boston Bar to work on the railroad. In 1951, he moved to Kelowna and thrived in a variety of work: door to door bread delivery for the Royal Bakery, truck delivery for McGavin’s Bakery, selling insurance for Manufacturer’s Life, salesman for the Capital News, starting his own bookkeeping business and working at Springfield Funeral Home as an usher and driver.

Between family and work, he was an Officer for Sea Cadets, volunteered for Crusaders Boys Club, church and Credit Union boards, did church hospital visitation, sang in the Singing Christmas Tree, was a member of the RCMP Auxiliary, and a much in demand MC at weddings and other events. He loved the outdoors, especially at his daughter’s log house in the Rockies. Aubrey loved to recite poetry, sing (especially to the children) and was an entertaining storyteller.

You will be forever in our hearts.

We will be celebrating his life at Evangel Church (3285 Gordon Drive) at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideons International Canada.

    Dear Terry and family.
From a young age of 15 or 16 years of age I remember your dad always had time to talk to me no matter how busy he was. • Jack Kofoed says:

I feel like I have known Aubrey forever.. I have been the dealer principal at Kelowna Toyota since 1970..
For many of those business years, Aubrey was my sales rep. from the Capital News.
We were instant friends.. he was efficient , articulate, came with suggestions, well spoken
and good looking.. When he came to my office I tried my best not to keep him waiting, thinking
his time was just as valuable as mine. We were very sorry when he was no longer in that role.
I have seen Aubrey over the years, but regret that I did not see him over the last 5 years.
He will be truly missed from your loving family circle. I’m blessed for having know him..
    Jack Kofoed../Kelowna Toyota..
